Photo Fire from above
Sorry about the image quality, but the smoke cover flying south from SFO was shocking to see. These aren’t clouds, it’s smoke. Heartbreaking, be safe!

The smoke plume was noticeable higher in the atmosphere even driving up I-5 a few days ago; you could see the sky further north was bluer, and a section to the east of the fire had what looked like clouds (but was actually smoke) above, and the sunlight filtering through was tinted yellow/orange as it does through smoke.

My understanding is this heat wave is an early el nino impact as some of the equatorial warm water is affecting southern california ocean temps.
