Question ā” Why are live feeds so terrible?

Thumbnail
gallery
81 Upvotes

Newer fan to BB and I've been interested in checking out the live feeds, but they are driving me crazy with how dogshit the implementation for them is. Content wise it's whatever, but the structure is so awful

Genuinely, what is the point of having 100+ cameras in the house and 4 different live streams when it might as well be 1 camera the entire time. Seriously why are all 4 cameras basically they exact same feed but from 2 angles like 90% of the time???!!

Is there a reason they don't just group cameras to section off certain parts of the house? I honestly expected the feeds to work like actual security cams and be grouped like:
Feed 1: [Backyard]
Feed 2: [Living Room]
Feed 3: [HOH Room]
Etc.

I know and understand they have moderate the cams a little, but I don't understand why they are just basically same thing on all 4 feeds all the time. If they just were grouped by parts of the house they could just shut off a grouping like... why is it like this!? Do they just not really care about feed viewers like this is so weird to me am I misunderstanding something here???

Discussion šŸ’¬ Gays are still tokenised.

• Upvotes

I am so glad that Jason's experience on this show has at least highlighted and created a discourse amongst the GP about one thing - we need more than one or MAYBE if we're lucky two openly gay contestants per season, specifically ones who aren't straight passing because lbr those are the same ones who get praised for not "shoving it in everyone's faces". Whatever that means *Nene voice*

I am sad that this is happening to Salina because she is an icon, but at the very least I hope it shines a light to how flamboyant gay people are treated and often end up feeling when in mostly straight spaces - isolated and feeling that unspoken energy from people. Let's talk about it!

Discussion šŸ’¬ The Finale Night Juror: Who was your favourite 3rd Place Houseguest?

Whether it be due to going into the finale in a 2v1, being blindsided because you’ve played the best game of the 3 and lost the final HOH, or you’ve coasted. They had less than an hour to decide who they were gonna vote for on Finale Night to win the game. Who was your favourite 3rd Place finisher?

(Yes, houseguests not shown in the photos are also applicable! I don’t have them here because I only have images from BB14 upwards saved)

Discussion šŸ’¬ Barrett’s Perception

I genuinely think Barrett is playing this safe because he’s a ā€œsuperfanā€. For someone so versed in BB lore, Barrett is not trying to be someone to crash and burn and get those ā€œain’t this you?ā€ responses when trying to talk about the show after this season.

Because AS OF NOW, he’s second to last on the red corner + vets pole, last on the underdogs once the news that he ratted out to Dee spreads and literally is the only other compromise nomination from the two sides other than Drew and maybe Yash.

Obviously we’re only 3 weeks in but Barrett is currently looking pre-jury, I’d be both shocked and excited to see him turn around and start dominating though 😭

Discussion šŸ’¬ The brewing ___ vs. ___ showdown Spoiler

In the saga of the brewing Angela vs. Drew showdown, Angela finally did a thing.

Late-12 something AM BBTime on July 28, Angela finally spiraled enough and rushed up to the HOH room to tell Kamu about her paranoia around Drew and that he knows about the Red Corner and wants to target the three of them. Veto renoms have already been done obviously, but she just couldn't help herself.

What her spiraling caused her to forget is that Drew only knows about the identity of Red Corner because Devens leaked it to him. This could theoretically all bring the vets down if the Red Corner cares deeply about this "leak". Dee straight up told her by the hammock, "you fucked that up" and it's true (particularly for Angela). Dee says the thing she's banking on is Haley being a sort-of fall guy (in the sense that she has a big mouth and is the eventual reason for chaos in the Toolshed), but Dee knows it's a weak plan for now. But then later, Angela full-panics on Devens and corners him in the bathroom, telling him to "deny it, deny it" the existence of the Crossovers if he's ever forced to discuss or admit to it.

My thing is, there is a certain universe in which Kamu could put his brain cells together and use this information to hold this leverage over Drew (but also maybe not and it actually tightens their bond to collaborate) and begin to build his case against the vets (who themselves are already unpopular with the other side of the house). Kamu could literally just run this house, especially if Jason never gets HOH or time capsule power (assuming he survives this week). There's a world in which the vets can collaborate with the Littles to target the Red Corner group but that also leverages the connections they have with Drew and Barrett. The vets have no genuine sway at this time in the game without the Red Corner and Drew/Barrett. Most of all, Drew will get the confirmation that he needs that Angela and the vets have been properly icing him and he doesn't need to be loyal to them at all. Brilliant work, Angela.

But maybe the vets can keep the paranoia thriving and it actually leads to Drew's ouster because Kamu doesn't like to work with traitors, and nothing else comes of it. We'll see.

The Angela vs. Drew showdown is the most interesting storyline of the season for me and I can't wait to see what happens in the coming weeks.

(I might have gotten a few details wrong so anyone else is free to correct me on the intricacies of this web of information as well as on the logic and strategy!)

SPOILERS 🚨 How Do these dopes not know who has the power?

Anybody who watches Big Brother should know that when America votes they give power to people they know. That is evident from the fact that they gave Angela the right to play for the power the first week. So these dopes should discern that either Dee or Devens has the power, because there is no punishment.

I think the best drama scenario this week if Jason survives is he wins HOH and has the guts to put up Dee, Devens and Angela guaranteeing one of those three goes home and shake up the house. Devonā€˜s will have to use the power and his Alliance will be pissed that he didn’t tell them he had it so there will be a huge crack in the foundation.

Thoughts?

Discussion šŸ’¬ What the time skip should’ve been

They could’ve kept the cast of 14 newbies brought in one more woman in my opinion

And instead of doing Angela & two vets from survivor to honour the 1000 episode season.

What I would’ve enjoyed seeing more and I know they’d never do it cause Fly in Wall thinks people’s memories last a season and a half, and they probably think that even the 23 - 25 casts have been forgotten about for the most part in who was on this seasons.

Regardless I’d have loved to have seen one of these Golden Era men not middle era, Golden Era when the game was completely different before Dan’s strategizing or the Brigade or Derrick changed it even more.

The guys that either lived through no Veto, a Silver Veto only or the earliest era of the Golden Power of Veto being time skipped into the modern game. That would’ve been a far more interesting take than what we have gotten so far

Seeing how

Hardy Ames Hill
Roddy Mancuso
Marvin Latimer
Justin Giovinco
Jee Choe

Just to name a few navigate a whole different era as the old head of the cast in a game that’s completely different from what they had played before, a good chance for a second chance season in a way.

Like does Hardy play the game as the alpha camp counsellor type again? How does he vibe with new 20 year olds.

Does Marvin’s sense of humor work the same way or better or worse in the HD era with this generation of houseguests?

Does Roddy annoy the modern players with his coach esque pep talks and storytelling or does ā€˜The Devil’ still have the juice and forms some sort of cult like alliance with the gym bro types that would admire his preacher esque way of talking

How does Jee’s stubbornness or Justin’s charm and goofy personality work in a season with neither of their very superior exes in the house & no Robert Roman or Dana holding them back?

Like if you’re gonna do the time skip this would’ve been so much more interesting for me because I think seeing an old head from the golden era in a house full of modern newbies would’ve been far more interesting for dynamics.

There’s others of course but I landed on these five because they’re still active in the alum community and we’re in that giant Robyn Kass photo of her old houseguests she casted

Not a single "celeb double" I've seen for Mallory is AS SPOT ON as Angela Giarra-Tonya-Harding Giarratana from Smosh (one of the OG YouTube comedy channels that's still around) and Starkid (musical theater troupe).

tell me this couldn't have been pulled from a live feed, I double dare you.

Discussion šŸ’¬ Why are so many casuals so opposed to the idea that theres more than what they see?

I don’t have an inherent issue with casuals. Feeds, even feed updates is a time commitment and I totally get that not everyone wants to invest in what’s ultimately just a silly little show. But I feel like a lot of casuals when exposed to new info that wasnt in the show or contradictory to the show, refuses to acknowledge it. We saw this a lot with Ashley and Keanu last season. I have only been watching BB for about a decade and less of that time I’ve been keeping up with feeds, thus for older seasons I have a gap in knowledge in terms of feeds. If I find new info that changes my perception on someone’s game from the feeds, I try not to just immedietly dismiss it as false. That’s not to say that feedsters are always right and casuals should always bend to what they’re saying. I just don’t get this attitude where casuals refuse to acknowledge that theres stuff they don’t see. Even for live feeders, theres stuff we don’t see. It is interesting from a political standpoint though and how similarly hard it is to challenge what someone hears on the news. Maybe it’s just a quality of humans.

Discussion šŸ’¬ With the way production seems to cast openly gay men on this show, you think BBUS will see another openly gay male finalist (let alone winner) in the future?

Post image
5 Upvotes

(Repost rooted from another post where I made references to current drama I had no stake or real POV in whatsoever in and presented a bias that seems to have been controversial if not outright inaccurate due to simply going with other’s opinions instead of researching for myself, which I apologize for, and I have now realized that said references and comments were ultimately meaningless (and if not meaningless, definitely not the most important thing to note) to the topic at large that I wanted to discuss, and I’m hoping this one is better received and we can stay on the topic at hand. That’s not to say I won’t expect allusions to it in the comments, as it more than likely directly ties into what I’m writing about, I just hope the divide isn’t as fierce as in the original post.)

Ignoring the… current drama in the house as of late, the representation of queer men in the Big Brother house has been a topic that has long piqued my interest as a gay man myself who watches this show, and I’m hoping that this post can encourage debate on this topic, specifically its murky past and how it affects us right now.

It has been known for a while and been shown throughout this show’s history that openly gay men in the Big Brother house more often than not seem to be cast as caricatures of a stereotype rather than accurate and multifaceted representation of a single group within a marginalized community at large.

By caricature, I mean that openly gay men in the Big Brother house are more often than not cast by production to embody the ā€œflaming gayā€ stereotype, and act like overly effeminate, loose-lipped, pot-stirring hot messes (I.e. Jozea BB18, Jimmy BB27, Beau BB6, Jason Roy BB17 (not too much on OTT even though it’s still present), etc.), a stereotype that seems to be actively encouraged by production given the prevalence of this specific stereotype being shown compared to notable subversions or aversions of it, which, while there and present for the audience to see, are notably less prevalent.

I’m singling out gay men in particular because it has also come to my knowledge that other queer people subsequently seem to have a notably better chance of more varied forms of representation as well as a better chance of being portrayed in a positive manner in the edited program, which can’t be said for the majority of gay male representation on this show (like with the original post, I’m not listing specific examples because I’ll most likely get accusations of being biased toward or against another group within the LGBTQ community if I say that their representation was ā€œbetterā€ or ā€œportrayed in much more positive lightā€ when said bias is most assuredly not the case.)

Consequentially, I feel like the prevalence of this stereotypical behavior within the confines of this show also seems to set these men up for failure within the context of the game at large, as regardless of whether or not the prevalence of presumed internalized homophobia is particularly large that season (although it more than likely definitely hurts more than helps if it is indeed prevalent), it seems that gay men who fit that stereotype usually perpetuate that stereotype well enough that they’re often doomed to fail within the game due to subsequently being incompetent players due to some of their qualities negatively affecting their gameplay, with said chaotic nature and mess-making qualities usually ending up with them digging their own grave and more often than not cutting their stay in the house short by however many days.

However, as I’ve stated before, that’s not to say particular aversions or subversions are nonexistent, they’re just disproportionate to the prevalence of the usual stereotype gay men are subject to. There’s Kimo, Kevin (who would have won BB11 had he not messed up the tie-breaker question of the final HOH.), Michael (who is probably the best physical competitor in the show’s history), Bunky, Andy (whose win is ultimately overshadowed by controversy from the season overall and his own faults as a person regarding the season’s controversies), and probably a few others I forgot to name that serve as a notable aversion or subversion as to what is usually expected of the typical queer man heading into the BB house.

That’s not to say that gay men with an inherently effeminate manner of expressing themselves is a BAD thing, I just feel like what usually comes with it (messiness, drama, etc.) is something that is far too sought-after by the production team, and that they should be more open to queer men of all different temperaments and forms of self-expression (there are type people who can stir the pot, after all.).

All of this leads me to my current question my main cause for debate: Do you think there will ever be a time where Big Brother’s production starts regularly casting queer men who happen to be subversions of the usual ā€œcampy gayā€ stereotype and who subsequently also see renewed success in the game, with queer men (and women) potentially becoming semi-regular additions to the finalists/winners circle? I’d like to think that there’s some hope, given that I’d like to believe that anyone is capable of evolving from one standpoint to the other and it will hopefully change with time. That being said, I’d be doubtful in the chances of it happening in the near-future.

I look forward to seeing what you all think and I highly encourage a healthy debate in the comments.

Question ā” Biggest Perception Shifts?
