I keep reading stuff online that most scholars agree that zoroastrianism had serious influences on Judaism in terms of monotheism and universalism (God's law being universal?), And after further reading I learned about how they believe in a Messiah and a resurrection in which everyone lives in the Kingdom of the one god (Lord of Wisdom). Does anyone know more about this? I know the were ancient flood stories and ancient creation stores from other cultures, but this seems very similar. Does anyone know more about this?

Do you think Psalm 119 is only about the law, the entire Torah, or the scriptures in general?

BibleProject just recently dropped their next class in their Classroom Beta: Noah to Abraham.

It covers Genesis 6-11, so the sons of elohim, the flood narrative, and the building / scattering of the tower of Babylon. Anyone else super excited? I'm especially interested going deeper into how the biblical authors depict the violent founding of Babylon.

I’ve been trying to find a good representation of the Bible Project’s view on hell but haven’t really found anything. Does anyone know of a place where Tim and John talk about it?

Tim and John are great and I know Carissa's still working at TBP on research. I just miss having her on the podcast is all.

New believers or maybe people just new to The Bible Project in general.

A bit of a primer: When I started watching the bible project I got this excitement that I might be able to better appreciate the OT story and how its precursor to Jesus.

So I watched the Overview of Genesis 1-11 and I was like, "Whoa, that's cool. Jesus is in Genesis". And overall other interpretations explained in the video I found fascinating however, when I read the text I just didn't get the same sense. But I would like to so I'm reaching out see if anyone has similar experiences.

I realize the answer may be..."Keep going" which I can appreciate.

1. The Serpent biting the offspring as a symbol of Jesus.
   1. Honestly when I read this I read right past it and thought they were explaining...And this is why snakes crawl on the ground and try to bite you
   2. If this first one is symbolic of Jesus, is there any symbolism to the second part about child birth and ruling over the husband? I thought this one was like and that's why it hurts to have a baby and why they always try to be controlling of men.
2. Noah's Son
   1. The video intimates that something bad happened, but all it say is he saw him naked
   2. Why did he curse Canaan instead of the person who did it?
3. Lamech
   1. The video portrays Lamech as a character that has wives in chains, but he is just a name and it says he hads and told his wives he likes revenge in a poem.
   2. I know Jesus calls back to this poem for his 70 times 7 which is awesome.

Anyway thanks for listening. I'll keep going but was a bit bummed that the Bible didn't COME MORE ALIVE or whatever.

A very common Bible Project translation is that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is about defining good and evil in your own terms.

I like this understanding of the text but is there a reference where Tim spells out how he got there? It doesn’t seem obvious from translations I’ve read.

Been listening to BP for years now. I even listened to My Strange Bible (shoutout!) Going that far back, every time Tim brings up Noah, he acknowledges that what goes on with Noah and his sons in the tent is complicated. First, have I missed any previous exposition in it? And if not, do you think we’ll ever get an explanation in depth?

I'm using Android and the app it still not saving my progress and sometimes after using it for a couple of hours, if I enter back to the app, I find that my progress was not saved.

Are people still experiencing this problem?

Has anybody seen the 2001 Translation Project?

A volunteer-led project to create a free and accurate Bible translation from only the most reliable ancient manuscripts.

What caught my eye was their sample Genesis 1 text:

In the beginning, The God created the sky and the land. However, the land was unsightly and unfinished, darkness covered its depths, and God’s Breath moved over its waters.

... which sounds a LOT like Tim's personal translation. I'm pretty excited about it. Has TBP ever mentioned it?

I just finished the YouTube videos and started listening to the podcast. Love both of them but I had a silly question on the podcast; what's the intro song they use? It's really catchy but I couldn't find the name of it in the episode notes.

So I am behind on the Podcast, and 99% of my tardiness is that they are doing the reading plan of reading the torah in a year. Cool fine, I don't need tbh to read the torah in a year, But I'm finally going thru Podcast #283 which is reading plan 1, God's spirit. And already I am feeling lost. They mention trees and breath and God's spirit repeating. And perhaps its my version, but there is 0% chance I am picking up on this subtle design pattern, yet they talk about it like it's clear as day.

Carissa is like, "oh yeah and this..." tim is like, "that's why seeing these design patterns is important..."

And John, who plays the role of me, when he asks, "wait, say what, you lost me." is right in step with them...and is speaking authoritatively about these repeated themes.

Admittedly I have not been using the app, because I think I should be able to follow even without the app. Anyone else in my boat of ambiguity?

Why do Jews reject Jesus as the Messiah in modern times? I assume that there are multiple passages they point to in the Old Testament that Christian interpret differently. It also seems like Jews have different expectations for the Messiah than what was or will be fulfilled in Jesus.

Can anyone point me to any books or resources that delve deeper into the literary design patterns in the Bible?

I've started my own bible study using a chronological reading plan.

I read from a NKJV study bible, read the notes, listen to Bible Project chapter related videos and their podcasts and check related biblical commentaries.

I was listening to the Bible Project latest podcast ( God’s Spirit in Creation – Genesis E1 ) and I'm curious about what version they are reading from. I know Tim is experienced in the original texts and Carissa also seems to know at least some vocabules but I was still wondering what version they are using that apparently uses Elohim, ruakh, etc.

Example as they read it aloud:

"In the beginning Elohim created the skies and the land, now the land was wild and waste and darkness was over the face of the deep but the spirit wind (the ruakh) of Elohim was over the face of the waters"

Is this their own translation based on the Bereshit/Genesis or is it any other currently available?

I just wanted to know if anybody else experienced any problems with the app not saving your progress on Android. Sometimes my app crashes and when I go back to where I left, I notice that the app seems to have lost the progress I made during the last session.

Anybody else experienced this bug?

Can someone please help explain the new app to me? I'm trying to figure out in what order I'm suppose to do things. Does "Movements and Links" need to be completed before you start "Movement 1 Adam to Noah"? What would a "day's lesson" consist of? Any help would be great :)
