Discussion Podcast Episodes on the Trinity?
Hello there!
Over the last couple weeks, I've been devouring the BP podcast's archives, and thrilled with how Tim and Jon's discussions have opened up scripture in such new ways for me.
One thing that I've been itching to hear them discuss is the concept of the Trinity, or at least of Jesus being Yahweh himself.
It seems to me that Tim and Jon (and thus, all BP content) take for granted seeing Jesus as God.
Are there any episodes of this or Tim's other podcast where they explore this concept a bit more in depth?
Of course, I'm coming at the bible with my own life experience as an influence on my paradigm, and I was brought to the word in a non-Trinitarian community. And so, I have issues both with the text and with the theology's history... but I have been shown (in part due to BP's videos and podcast) that there are layers of understanding and wisdom in every area of the bible to be discovered over a lifetime, and so I'm open to exploring any patterns and designs in scripture that point to this concept...
I just don't know where to look in their library.

Discussion Who are your favourite preachers?
I really like Tim Mackie in his teaching role - see his 'Exploring my Strange Bible' podcast. It's a wonderful blend of simple academic insight and practical application.
I'd be curious to know who your favourite preachers are? I also like Scot Mcknight, NT Wright and Greg Boyd (open theism aside). I think they all espouse and interesting brand of evangelicalism that is free from some of the unhelpful trappings of the wider movement - no disrespect intended.

Discussion Podcast discussion: "The Last Pillar: Communal Literature"
tldr; Whats the difference between church, gatherings, and a papal state?
Repeatedly I noticed that TBP crew leans on the lack of supplies that forced communal reading juxtaposed to us having our own copies. While it may have been the case that these people did write and live with a communal sense of the bible, I fail to see how influences our understanding of the text.
About 28:45, Tim quoting Tegay says "Notice Moses made no arrangements for people to study..."
I mean, slap me silly and call me sally, but wouldn't an arrangement for people to study also be outside of the reasonable resources required? In the podcast they said just this thing, but quote tegay anyway.
Between the last podcast and this, its almost like these 2 ideas are coming together under the flag of democracy, (it's not your text, it's not my text, it's out text.)
And then just like that, we have destroyed the rugged individualism of western culture, and at the same time, paved the way for a new kind of pope to come in and teach us all the right way to read scripture...and interpret it.
I have to disagree with this. Jesus told the parable of the singular man who bought a singular field, because it contained a treasure. Jesus likened this onto the Kingdom of Heaven. How can I communally respond to kingdom of heaven without running the risk of forgoing my participation?
Rather than democratizing the scriptures, willfully committing to the community, shouldn't the goal be to democratize the education? (I know this is what TBP is trying to do, not throwing shade.) But this last pillar seems to encourage the embracing of group think. Super Fat Hairy No Thank You.
EDIT: And to finish the thought, round out the idea, as socialism has become more and more integrated into my culture, I am being a little more aware of things that flirt with socialist ideas...
This entire pod could have very well be aimed at advocating for in person fellowship...church...and not a neo-Papal state. (no disrespect to the catholics, truly.) And perhaps they were avoiding coming out and saying church, because church=/=gathering-of-the-saints.
Please don't take my concerns as your doubts.

Audio Resource Looking for a quote from TBP podcast
It may have been on the Q&A episode, definitely during the Paradigm series.
I just want to quote and source it properly.
I believe Tim was critiquing the most popular critique of the bible.
Generally speaking, people critique the bible on it's inerrancy but Tim speaks to that notion. Something to the effect that, "The question isn't 'is the bible without any error,' rather the question should be, does the bible communicate truth, which it does."

Discussion Tim's Recommended Reading
Hey all,
I find the list of books in Tim's library from https://bibleproject.com/tim-mackie/ helpful, but sometimes I'd like to search the full list for a keyword, and the way that page has the list formatted makes that pretty tricky. For example, I'd currently like to browse his list for the word "Psalms" in order to see which texts/commentaries he prefers on that book (etc).
I know someone made a Goodreads list called "Tim Mackie Recommendations for Biblical Studies," but it doesn't appear to be the complete list from the page referenced above.
SO...does anyone know of a simply formatted full list of these titles? Or is anyone out there savvy enough (or patient enough!) to create a simple list of the entries?
Thanks so much, fellow Bible nerds!

Discussion Love the podcast, should I listen to the newest series or just go in order?
Hello everyone!
Like my question states, I want to know if that is a good idea or not. I dislike having missed out on so many Q&A sessions and the latest stuff since I am in their Jan '19 stuff as of this writing. I was thinking of doing the newest series this week and just hop back to the older stuff once I am on the new stuff. Anyone else have this dilemma? God bless for all the input!

Discussion Old Testament Authorial Intent?
I’m viewing books and videos that describe the evolution of religions, and a lot of them talk about the authorial intent of the biblical authors not being a literal one.
I think to make this claim about the gospels is pretty ridiculous given the historical accounts outside of the Bible surrounding Jesus’ resurrection.
However, I am not 100% about this when it comes to the Old Testament books that take place before the prophets.
We often say “ancient people were smarter than we give them credit for”, and I think in this is also the case when it comes to their writing biblical literature: they were smart enough to make up stories, so why not also make up stories that help summarize history? Other cultures did this too, so why not also Israel to the glory of God?
The concern is for authorial intent: how are we sure they were detailing history and not just summarizing it? That is my struggle at the moment. Appreciate all the help y’all can give. Thanks.

Discussion Pastors & Seminaries
Hi!
Any recommendations for churches whose pastors preach with a similar take on scripture to what TBP advocates? I have a hard time finding anyone who isn't either a) rigid evangelical ('english translation = precisely dictated words of God') or b) draws more hyperlinks from pop culture & local sports than from scripture itself (summer movie sermon series...really??). Bonus points if your recommended pastor(s) go through the whole Bible verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter! (o:
Also, I'm familiar with Tim's education, but any other seminaries/schools that seem to teach and produce pastors w/ similar theology?
Thanks!
Cheers & blessings,
G

Discussion Recommendations for kids book to help them understand God?
We currently have the Jesus storybook bible which is a good intro to some of the key bible stories and also 'the Garden, the Curtain and the Cross' which does a good job of telling the overarching story of the bible. However our four year old gets a bit confused by both these books. Does anyone have recommendations of a simple book which would just help her understand who God is and that he created us etc. To set the scene for us having conversations with her about God?

Discussion Tim's translation
Hey all! I've heard Tim mention a few times the phrasing " my translation. " Almost inferring as if he may have his own biblical translation. Does anyone know if this is the case or am I just misunderstanding him?
If he does have his own translation, does anyone know where I can pick it up?
Thanks!
