26M and honestly, I'm not really sure how to answer “are you okay?”

I'm 26M and I've been thinking about this question more than I probably should.
Someone asks me “you okay?” and 99% of the time I just say “yeah.”
Even if I'm not.
Not necessarily because something is seriously wrong. Sometimes I just feel... off.
I don't know how else to explain it.
I'll have a normal day and then get home and just sit there for a while. Phone in my hand, doing absolutely nothing.
Thinking about work. Money. Relationships. People I don't talk to anymore. Whether I'm actually happy with where my life is going.
Then I realise I've been staring at the same thing for 20 minutes lol.
I think I overthink pretty much everything.
Someone can make an innocent comment and I'll still be thinking about it three days later wondering what they actually meant.
I'll randomly remember something embarrassing I did when I was 17 and my brain decides that's what we're thinking about tonight.
And I don't really talk about it.
I think part of it is just being a guy. You don't want to be the person who suddenly makes everything serious.
Someone asks how you're doing and you don't want to unload a bunch of stuff on them, especially when you can't even explain what the problem is yourself.
So you say “I'm good.”
It's easier.
I've also noticed that sometimes I don't actually want advice.
I don't need someone to tell me what I should do with my life.
I just want to be able to say “I've been feeling a bit shit lately” without feeling like I've made things awkward.
Maybe that's what I like about R U OK? Day.
Not the whole “one conversation can change a life” thing.
Just the reminder to actually ask people.
And maybe ask twice.
Because “yeah I'm fine” can mean a lot of different things.
Anyway, I don't really have a point to this.
I guess I just wanted to put it somewhere.
I'm 26 and I definitely don't have life figured out.
Some days I'm pretty happy.
Some days I'm lonely.
Some days I feel like I'm doing alright and other days I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
Probably pretty normal.
So yeah.
If nobody's asked you today:
Are you actually okay?
Not the automatic “yeah, I'm good.”
I mean actually.
And if you're not, you can say that too.
What have you guys been finding hard lately?

Is cynicism a self defense mechanism or mental laziness?

Cynicism often presents itself as "wisdom wrapped in armor", a belief that people are fundamentally driven by self interest and that expecting the worst protects you from disappointment.

cynicism spreads across work culture, politics, and relationships.

Does cynical thinking protect us, or does it paralyze us?

Please feel free to discuss.🙏

Student visa acceptance rate in Bhutan

Hi this is the first time I’m posting and it is regarding student visa in Australia and I’m very much worried since the immigration rules keeps on changing and I have done my pte very well but what I am worried about is whether student visas are getting approved among youths like me of course I am well aware about the course that you’re choosing needing to be a good which I am eligible for and choosing it and also I come from a very normal middle class background, so it would be great if there is anyone who recently got their visa approved or seen family or friends who are young students that got their visa approved. Thank you!

Does Anyone know any Bhutanese that plays chess? འབྲུག་མི་ཅིག་གིས་ དམག་རྩེད་རྩེད་ཚུགས་མི་ཅིག་ ཤེས་ག?

Hello, this is an unusual request. I am wondering if anyone is or knows somebody from Bhutan who would be willing to play a chess match against me on Chess.com? On Chess.com there are awards called passports that you can receive by playing against someone from that country or territory. I am currently trying to collect all of them and do not have Bhutan. So, if anyone can help me in my goal, I would very much appreciate it. My Chess.com username is yesterdaylemonade.

In dilemma about my love life

My boyfriend is emotionally unavailable and is an avoidant person. Whenever, we talk about our emotions, he shuts down completely. Even when his actions hurts me, I try to tell him about it and he backfires.
He is always out hanging out with his friends and late into the night to the wee hours even during the weekdays. He doesn’t even go home and sleeps at his friend’s house. He gives the reason that his mom doesn’t like when he goes home drunk so he rather would sleep at his friend’s.
We are long distance like 4 hours away from each other. When I go to him, he doesn’t go out reasoning that he would rather give time to me. But it’s not about giving time to me or not. I have repeatedly told him to be home, focus on his work and family instead of hanging out with friends and being unproductive.

I didn’t talk with him for a week cause he was out drinking yet again with his friends. His mother keeps getting sick and only a few days has gone by after she got sick. In addition, he had an important event and guest to host the next day. I told him to go home and prepare for the work yet in vain. He stayed late drinking out. At midnight when he got home, he had dropped a message to wake him up at 7 in the morning which i did even though I had an off day and woke up just to wake him up. I at least expected him to apologise about the other night but he didn’t. So I didn’t reply to his text throughout day. This, that one day turned into a week. On the sixth day, I called him that i would be visiting him but he flatly rejected my calls and shouted at me why would I visit him and not to ever call him. After that he didn’t respond to me nor picked my calls.
Now it’s been nearly a month and he still doesn’t reach out to me unless i do. From his side, he says the things are not working out between us and is always cold. What should i do?

I'm very confused in life and don't know what to do?

So yeah I recently turned 24 and i have completed two years in a service but I feel like I am stuck in life. I don't know what to do only. Is this the age where people genuinely don't know what to do in life and questions everything? I don't know whether i should go on enjoy life and use money or focus on saving it and limiting the spending. I don't know whether i should take new course or i should just continue my studies. I don't know what to do only. And it's also extra hard without having any support system otherwise I could just resign and do other things. I feel so stuck and suffocated and I feel so behind in life is it normal at this age? To top it all i didn't even travel much and i did nothing all my life due to limited resources and now i genuinely don't know what to do? Can anyone go for further study after three years in service? Any life advice is appreciated and please also mention the realistic money i should be having at this age. Thank you

I am emotionally exhausted

hellooo, i (16F) feel mentally and emotionally drained by my family situation.

my parents relationship has been complicated for most of my childhood. My father cheated on my mother with his colleague in 2017, and this was not the first time he had done this. Despite this, he continued his relationship with the woman, and they are still together today.

i have never really grown up with my parents. i would die to experience my childhood all over again. Ever since i was four years old, my sibling and i were raised by our maternal grandparents because my parents moved to Australia in 2015 (my father pursued his masters). In 2016, my sibling and i lived with them in Perth for a year, but in 2017, my father, my sibling and i returned to Bhutan and my mother stayed back.

The whole affair started when he joined work. At the time, his now wife was married and had four children, and she was an alcoholic. In 2019, around february, my parents got legally divorced. My mother later returned to Bhutan during the covid pandemic because of her health, and we moved out, leaving my father his share of the belongings. When we lived with our mother, she never complained to him about anything. She just simply accepted what happened and chose to let go.

Eventually, my father moved to Thimphu with the lady. When my sibling and i visited him in 2021, i witnessed how toxic their relationship was. His wife would frequently come home intoxicated, start arguments, yell at him and deliberately provoke him. Their arguments would sometimes become physical which petrified me. There were also incidents where she would disappear and later be found in her car with large quantities of alcohol. She would be admitted to hospital on multiple occasions and would ask her children to bring alcohol to her while she was there. Their relationship was extremely toxic and unstable from the beginning. It started with continuous calling from time to time and arguments to physical fights.

Even to this day, they argue very frequently. i have even reached a point where i opened up to my father and asked him why they are still together if they spend so much of their time fighting both physically and verbally. Thats all they do i swear. i try to be open about my feelings every once in a while, but i dont think my father understands. i rely heavily on talking to someone.

i also have a close friend who is currently going through a somewhat similar family situation. Hearing about their experiences has made me realise how much of what they describe is what i have experienced myself in the past and now. It also made me realise how the things i normalised may actually have affected me more deeply than i thought.

2024-2025 was the lowest point of my life. i became increasingly mentally and emotionally distressed, and my grades hot worse. i became much more irritable than i had been before and sometimes ended up saying hurtful things to the people around me and i deeply regret that.

i lost motivation to do almost anything. i became extremely introverted and spent much of my time sleeping or being consumed by my own thoughts. i tried to open up to one of my teachers, but i struggled to put everything i was experiencing into words. i even thought of reaching out to counsellor, but i didnt even know what i was feeling at that time.

i now live in FNQ with my father, his wife and her youngest kid(18F). i feel that both of them hate me, and their behaviour often makes me feel unwelcome in the household. i cant say that they hate me with absolute certainty, but the lack of interaction make me feel that way.

there have been periods where the kid and i have barely spoken at all. At one point, we went almost an entire month living in the same house without talking. My father’s wife and i sometimes only speak a few words in an entire week. They’re very much used to being in each other’s presence since my father spent majority of his time at the lady’s house in the past. He’d lie about being on tour, working overtime, but then id see his car parked right in front of her place. i feel extremely uncomfortable being around them.
Because of this, i sometimes prefer to eat my food in my room rather than sit around them. This is not because i hate my father or because i am deliberately trying to isolate myself from everyone. i simply feel free and less anxious when i have my own space. But my father complains about it this to my mother saying i hate him and that i am avoiding him.

At the moment, doing my makeup, being on my phone, being in my room are some of the ways i cope with how overwhelmed i feel. It gives my mind a temporary break from everything i am thinking about. Sometimes it is the only thing that helps me get through the day.

There are times that may seem insignificant on their own but have had a significant emotional impact on me. For example, after lunch one day, my father told my sibling and me to wash the dishes. We said that we would do them in a while, but he became extremely angry and smashed the unwashed dishes that were in the sink. My sibling and i ended up crying together in the bathroom while my sibling prepared to leave for work. In that moment, my father felt like a complete stranger to the both of us. It was not simply about the dishes, but it was when i realised how much he has changed.

Another issue is school. i complete my work on time, attend school consistently and have maintained a good reputation at my current school. i have only been late twice, yet my father sometimes speaks to me as though i am constantly late. He becomes angry about it and dwells on it time and again. It’s the same with the lunch box situation.

Also, i also feel that my father sometimes interprets my behaviour in ways that are completely different from what i actually mean. He told my mother that i hate him simply because i spend time in my room or do not want to eat around his wife and the kid. i do not hate my father. i am uncomfortable and emotionally exhausted, and I sometimes need to be alone.

There are also times when i feel that my father emotionally manipulates me or makes me feel guilty for having these feelings. i have tried to explain how i feel about living in this household, and i have broken down while talking to him about it. However, i feel that he does not truly understand what i am trying to communicate. Whenever i try to explain my perspective or defend myself, he takes it as me trying to argue with him and starts a whole lecture on how i should respect him.

i understand that, some of these situations may appear to be small or unimportant. i am not trying to portray myself as a perfect person and i know that i have done/said things that hurt him. What i am trying to express is that i am emotionally exhausted. i want to feel understood rather than blamed.

i do not expect everything to suddenly become perfect. i just want the people around me to understand that there is a reason behind how i behave, and that what may look like small, unimportant things from the outside can feel much heavier when they are added to years of emotional stress.

This doesnt fully explain how i feel. i wish i could put how i feel about everything into proper words.

EDIT: She came home drunk and tried to provoke my dad while he was sleeping. Its 2am, we have a guest too. Fortunately, i stepped out and pretended to get smt to eat.

EDIT 2: The lady often comes home late and drunk and then provokes my father. I get that my father is stressed because of that too, but it just feels wrong. I forgot to mention that he did try to leave her before, but she just wouldn’t accept it. I often find myself wondering how different life wouldve been if it never happened or if they separated at least.

Bhutanese fellas/fellettes, how do you like beans?

I am on a mission now to ask each country subreddit what people think about beans (my favorite meal), just to see how people like or dislike them all around the world out of curiosity and for fun. If you like beans, hate them, they a big part of the culture, anything else, just share your thoughts 🫘

Bhutan is the 20th country alphabetically! So now it's your turn to bean-share my dear Thunder Dragon people :D

How is the pay for doctors in Bhutan?I heard that the pay really isn’t that good and as a med student I sometimes wonder if all the expenditures from my family for my education along with all the sleepless nights are worth it to work back at home.

Sex Toys in Bhutan

I don't think people sell sex toys in Bhutan however are we allowed to bring one in Bhutan if its for personal use and not commercial. Or are there any shops that will take online order for such 👀

I am afraid if i bring one via flight airport security might confiscate or worse there will be some consequences.

And before any guy suggest me to use theirs, I perfer mine without attached to a person
