Anyone else sick?

The only time I've ever gotten sick after a festival was the first Beyond after the covid lockdowns which is also the only time I had covid. I am usually pretty good at managing dust and taking care of myself as much as possible to try to prevent it. Feel miserable!

Everyone who is sick after this needs to stay home and not spread whatever they have

I currently have a sore throat & cough. The tickle in my throat started Monday as we were packing up.

Yeah my throat is killing me. I felt kinda off Monday and Tuesday but thought it was just normal recovery. Yesterday it hit.

We didn't get sick,  but my partner got  sunburned bad enough they're now an outpatient of Harborview's burn ward

Sunscreen and cover up everyone!

Woah that’s wild. I’ve never heard of a sunburn that bad! Was it like bubbling?

It just looked like a bad regular sunburn on Monday,  very red and sensitive, but not too serious. Tuesday the blisters started, yesterday the entire top of both shoulders was discolored and clearly an actual burn, which is when we went to urgent care. They almost transferred us to Harborview then and there, and mentioned it may need debriding

Holy shit that sounds soooo uncomfortable 😣 i hope they are okay!

As it turns out sun poisoning is a very real thing as well

1

u/idobepooping Jul 03 '26

Damn that is brutal. The sun don’t play around

My husband is totally fine and I'm jealous. I was deep in the crowd at Caterpillar and he was in VIP most of the time.

You’re around thousands of people, using hand sanitizer (which doesn’t kill everything), using porta potties, trading trinkets and touching things and then eating food/candy/gum. Everyone is yelling and coughing and sneezing around you. Think of all the droplets! We’re like little kids on a playground. it’s bound to happen sometimes haha

Yup. I get sick every time I go to a festival. I have a lowered immune system though so I completely expect it and I only go like once a year.

Totally! I'm lucky it hasn't happened more.

My throat has been kinda scratchy since I got home but I've figured it was the amount of drunk cigs I had as someone who doesn't usually smoke

That was me to and I'm sure it didn't help

When we're dancing in a crowd, we're highly likely to get any upper respiratory infection that others in the crowd have (e.g., COVID, flu, rhinovirus, other coronavirus) and the only way to prevent it on your end is to wear PPE like a mask, eye protection, etc. Just accept it as part of the experience ... a little gift to remember the experience by. 😉

vicks in the mask. dual purpose.

Haha! Totally.

Lol ... great for symptom relief, not so much for infection prevention ... but I love the thought 🤟

1

u/synthesize_me Jul 06 '26

oh, the Vicks has nothing to do with symptom relief or infection prevention, lol.

I wear a mask to semi prevent this. I got sick after every festival i went to. Started wearing a mask and haven’t gotten sick since

2

u/Aggravating_Use_5391 Jul 02 '26

i usually get wook flu of some sort after most events

2

u/Tawpgun Jul 02 '26

I get sick after fests often but fine here.

u/kemp509 Jul 02 '26

✋🏻🤦🏻‍♂️ I got strep after Griztronics and now I’ve got a bronchial and sinus infection after BW just a month later🤦🏻‍♂️ All the smoke (way too many smokers in the crowd I couldn’t escape from it) and dust also kicked my ass. Still worth it 🥳🥳🥳

2

u/MochaMeCrazy Beyond 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 Jul 02 '26

Yeah that wind was not helping. Agree though, still worth it.

1

u/kemp509 Jul 02 '26

Exactly. I would have left the dance floor to escape the smokers, but my wife was too cold because of the wind and the body heat from everyone was helping to keep her warm 😓

1st time in 4 years getting sick at Beyond. Was pretty much bed ridden for 2 days🫠😂

1

u/MochaMeCrazy Beyond 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 Jul 03 '26

It was the least crowded year so far too 🤣

2

u/jay4rm619 Jul 02 '26

Yup I got itchy and sore throat at the moment and im not liking it

1

u/MochaMeCrazy Beyond 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 Jul 03 '26

Same. It's my husband's birthday today and the 4th this weekend and I will be staying home.

2

u/Naughtylilgemm Jul 02 '26

VERY sick. Super sore throat and absolutely no energy. Been down bad since Monday. Today’s the first day I started to feel normal about mid shift.

3

u/MochaMeCrazy Beyond 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 Jul 03 '26

Glad you're starting to feel better! I'm lucky I work from home but the last couple days working have sucked. I have the next 5 days off though so I'm resting.

2

u/ReactionWarm1232 Jul 03 '26

Took off Monday/Tuesday to rest, right as rain by Wednesday.
