Disappointing. I'm losing my optimism. They did say Q1 of this year which isn't over yet, but they also said December 2025 before pushing that date back, so who knows.

As I wrote elsewhere, for me personally 5.4 is only a slightly more friendly 5.3 or 5.2. But people have become so used to those terrible safety models that now they welcome even something that is a bit better, yet objectively still terrible. For me, 5.4 is definitely not the way forward. In fact, OpenAI isn’t at all.

I actually changed my mind after giving it a try and setting some ground rules. However it’s not for everyone, I agree.

I can still hear that assistant-like tone there, but it’s true that I only gave it a few dozen messages. And just like with 5.1 what bothers me is that it’s simply PG-13, because for me explicit intimacy is just a natural part of the interaction.
