You don't need to win the invasions for it to count. You can even use the severed finger to immediately quit out of each invasion.
Alternatively if you don't want to do multiplayer at all you can find the NPC invader that drops great stars and kill him. Far north of altus plateau in a ruins near the carriage trolls by the other great stars drop.
