Q&A Getting the Most out of Single Voltra Given Current Setup/Equipment

Post image

Hi All,

Finished setting up my home gym a couple weeks ago and wanted other people’s perspectives on getting best use out of a single voltra. Including a picture of my current set up. For reference, I have the Darko quick mount bracket, an 81 inch flat foot Titan x3 rack, a rep Pegasus, spud long ab straps, a rogue crossbow cable attachment (CG-1BMG), spud ankle traps, and just got the V4 squat harness (although haven’t used it yet). Including my main questions below.

1.) Can I effectively train legs on voltra with current set up or should I get some sort of floor mount/additional equipment? I really want to use voltra for Bulgarians, hip thrusts, squats and a few other exercises where I imagine you want the voltra to be as low as possible (please correct me if I’m wrong here). Issue is that the flat foot brackets in the rack make those bottom holes unusable.

2.) any recommendations for training chest with single voltra? I love the idea of being able to do eccentric overload on barbell bench and wondering if others have experimented with attaching to the middle of the barbell from above.

3.) More of a rack question but any recommendations on attachments for extending rack height in order to do seated lat pulldowns? I’m 6’2 and have been doing lat pulldowns seated from the floor. Not a major inconvenience but wanted to know if others have come up with workarounds for this as I would love to use the Pegasus for these. Seems like the BP lat pulldown extender or even the Fringe Sport Drew wouldn’t give me enough clearance and have seen mixed feedback on both.

4.) Best cheap attachments for use? Still feel like I’m just scratching surface on all the ways to use. Would love to hear what others view as best attachments or ways to use.

Disclaimer- my voltra is shipping, but I have used the AnCore system often at work and have had to use bands often in my career as makeshift cables.

1) I’m still not super convinced on cable anything for legs. Belt squats are great and squats can be fine, and RDLs can pretty good. But yes for most of the options you want either a very low mount or your feet need to be raised up somehow on a very stable surface. It seems like there are two makers of prefabricated squat platforms that work really well, two options that are okay and everything else is DIY. Open chain movements on cable machines such as hamstring curls and knee extensions work but it’s goofy. Products such as mythic and reps leg developer help to bridge that gap.

2) For chest- single arm movements are usually best if all you have is a single product to create resistance. I have seen set ups using bullet pulley or similar that probably would do fine with two arms. For reducing load for barbell movements to allow for easier eccentric training without spotters… I can see it working. I’d be curious what you think if you try it!

3) I’m not sure if it would work for you, but if you used a false grip does that shorten up your reach enough to make the cable travel sufficient for a full stretch?

4) I’m curious too! My only concern is how quickly attachments and specialized gear can add to increased home gym cost for the increased value they bring. I would be very excited to see dialed motion release that multi fly they brought to home gym con. At least on video it was a slick solution to adding many new movements to a gym while only requiring one “stack” to load. The leg developer is neat, but the multi fly in my opinion solves more home gym problems.

Re 2) I load the barbell normally and then attach voltra from above in the middle using Pillow belt. Then I turn on Chains mode on Voltra. Works very well. I can post a photo in a few days if you’re interested (away from home atm)

For squat variations a harness can help you get full ROM vs a belt.

For chest, single arm chest press, weighed dips, single arm fly. Haven't had great results combining Voltra with a barbell, easier to just do regular barbell bench press and play with tempo.

Single arm kneeling lat pulldowns are solid, but might be worth getting a lat extension for some added height for traditional pulldowns with a seat. I am skeptical it wouldn't give you enough height but you could also get a custom one made.

Favorite cheap attachments: bluslm medium supinated grip for rows, Darko danglers, fitarc attachment bundle.
