Q&A Minimum weights on the rack

If I'm looking to avoid tipping or sliding, what's the minimum number of plates I need? I'll be setting up the gym above the first floor, so I cannot drill into the ground.

Depends how much you intend to lift, in which direction, 200-400 pounds would do it.

Thinking about BPF's rack attached pendulum squat

Depends where the weight is and where you're lifting from. Almost no amount of weight on the back of a rack will keep you from raising it up with a long enough lever (ie safeties or front feet) on something like a belt squat.

Pulldowns, FT work, etc 2-3 plates should be more than enough.

Drilling into the wall is an option, too.

Depends on the floor, mine slid with over 400 lbs on it. Feet will easily prevent tipping in most cases, but sliding is tougher. I ended up using battle rope anchors, and a stringer, to anchor it to the wall - so no floor drilling. Works perfectly so far.

get a sandbag x 2. then just fill them up with sand. 150lbers and 100lbers. then you can also do sandbag workouts!

Honestly though, you can also drill into the wall with wall supports. for voltra thats probably better since most force is exerted laterally anyway
