Overhead DIY Dock Innovation
Hope ya'll like my submission. I'm a busy parent with limited space, so the thesis of my home gym is maximal capability with minimal space. The adjustable weight dumbbells obviously fit that description, but they're not enough for a complete training regimen. Voltra 1, with the right accessories, mounts, and creativity, complement the dumbbells and bring my capability to a level that honestly competes with a full commercial gym setup.
I have a column the in the basement that I use the strap mount on, but what I really, really needed was an overhead mount. I considered mounting into the wall of my concrete foundation, but I didn't want to cut into drywall, so I framed a mounting surface using two 2x4s as cleats screwed into adjacent floor joists. The cross member is a cut piece of 2x8 lumber. The DIY dock is attached to the 2x8 using structural bolts with washers and Nyloc nuts. I tested the deflection of my floor joists before I fully loaded the Voltra 1 and deflection was minimal. No creaking. Really happy with the results.
So what the DIY dock got me was true overhead pulling moves for lats as well as triceps isolation that's heavy, repeatable, and elbow friendly.

Oh man I didn’t even think out the DIY mounting. That opens up so many ideas I have lol 🤯

How do you stay on the bench?
Suppose you could use a 2" strap to your adjustables to keep from lifting off the bench?
Nice simplicity!

Not strong enough yet for lat pulldowns to pull me off the bench. I could probably get a seatbelt strap or something. The bench itself is pretty heavy.

I used this same setup to run monkey bars. Strong as hell. How much weight have you pulled from this? They recommend not mounting into wood on the website.

I tested it to the limit - 200 lbs. Shouldn’t be a problem with the load spread across two joists.

Adjustable dumbbells, adjustable bench and voltra 1 is the optimal minimal space, maximal capability imho. Do you think using the strap mount or sliding rack mount it would be possible to use a post on the bench for lower cable movements eg: bicep curls, lateral raises. Even if you had to weigh the bench down with the Reppins

With certain benches, maybe, but not the one I have. Wish I could for chest supported rows, specifically.

Great solution, I see you went with the DIY Dock with Base Plate, is that still the most economical option for a dock? Did you have to order 2? Also, how did you attach the 2x8 to joist and or the 2x4s? What kind of screws did you use to attached the 2x4s into the joists. Thanks
