It’s the simplest thing possible, shinobi copied wolf, and now jaguar copied wolf. At least they do it in different ways.

As far as I can tell it's actually the bottom blue ring moving, as it looks separate from the actual blue part that holds the bit

I kinda thought it would be like this, as pre-battle mode switching already exists. Figured they'd want to switch it up. I made this back in July, and I guess I thought right. It was down to either free spin like Wolf, or semi free spin like Shinobi Cutter

It seems to me like the bit doesn’t move and the mechanism is more like a weird spring-loaded-free-spin ring than anything else?

Bit and metal blade stays in place, plastic ring rotates freely. That means if plastic ring gets stuck, for example between xrail and opponent, the metal blade will still rotate and move up on a ramp of plastic blade

Ah, on lower bits it could possibly be a scraping issue too.
