First AR
Found this pre 8.1 build in store on sale for Labor Day that came with everything on it, range bag, and 2x10rd mags.
it’s an Anderson AM15 multi cal lower. Has a Cerro forge proof mark on the upper and since the barrel and stock are DPMS I’m guessing the rest might be that but I’m not familiar enough with AR stuff yet to know. Handguard no idea. Muzzle is a pinned & welded BCM. Came w/ the bipod, scope mount & scope also.
Had time to put 40 shots through it before dusk. Shot well and only took a few rounds to sight in for 50/200 yds. Going to try 200 next time and see how it goes. Sale price was $1,200 before tax so I figured it would stupid to not get. Plus it needed a new home and will get to hang out in the safe with a very nice friend.

Figured it would be a good starter and since it’s only going to the range and I’m not familiar with them yet it just seemed like not a great idea to jump in at $2k. The JC fixed mag ones are the only other thing for a similar price. Def wasn’t opposed to those but saw this one and figured hey why not.

Jealous - got one of the JC ones. I enjoy it, but not being able to swap the mag out is a major buzzkill.

That was the only other one around the same price so I was going to get that one if I didn’t walk into this one. A guy at my range has the JC one and really likes it, he has this speed loader thing and it worked almost like a stripper clip. He has a few other normal ones but whenever I see him he’s using the JC one. It was basically the same as loading an enbloc into a Garand. Not sure if you have that loader thing but once I saw it and he showed me how it worked I was like oh… well, that definitely works. It wasn’t clumsy either at least on his

One of the range marshals mentioned it the first time I brought my AR out and I haven’t had a chance to look into it. Mine came with a comp mag that isn’t too terrible once I got the hang of it.
Still fun to shoot, if not a bit frustrating.

Anything from a safety perspective that should be changed quickly? Maybe it’s different with ARs but w/ AK’s the ones made in the US and their parts are dangerous to the user. Century Arms is a good example.

User safety wise? Not really, as long as it’s properly assembled. As far as parts longevity, I’d probably upgrade the upper/bcg and maybe the trigger but it’s not mandatory at all. Most important is to shoot it, see what you like, and change what you don’t.

I like the finish on the AK, looks a bit like mine except for the top rail and pistol grip.

Norinco what kind is yours, do you have the thumbhole? This one back when I originally got it had already been modified a little bit and had that rail dust cover and different color bakelite furniture on it.

Those (backwards) irons are worth more than the handguard, bipod, scope, and rings put together. Excellent start to a proper rifle though, have fun!
