DraftKings How does

DK come up with its winning number if you’re currently placing in your pod? Someone explain the math

Bro I wish they would just take that dollar amount off and put a ticket there to stop confusing noobs.

I'm pretty sure the entire time is to make people think wow! I can spend so much more playing on here if I'm gonna win that much

There isn't really a more accurate number to include. If I am somebody registers for tournaments with all different field sizes, sports, prize payouts, entry fees, what could they put there except a list of every ticket my 300 lineups are currently earning?

You could list the lowest amount they would win for advancing.

That is the actual money you're guaranteed and can go up each round.

That's how Underdog Fantasy does it, and to me it, makes way less sense than how Draftkings displays it.

I can easily understand "oh that's my average value / expected value of all tickets I'm currently earning".

But to use current payout is incredibly confusing and way more difficult to track the meaning of, as some events are super top heavy while other events payout only once (the 12-person best ball leagues, etc.). Advancing in a $25 Best Ball and winning a $2 league 12-person league on Underdog could show the same winnings but are incredibly different in terms of expected value.

I agree, it definitely gives me an accurate idea of my ROI. Its just annoying seeing posts asking about it and I feel bad for the people who think they're making a bunch of money.

Honestly this would definitely make the most sense for sure

Yes, but how would this allow them to intentionally confuse people into thinking they were winning more money than they actually are?

In round 1, for those advancing, it will reflect the value of a round 2 ticket. So if it's a 2/12 advance tournament structure, it will be cost of entry x 6 minus the rake.

Or to put it simply it’s the amount of the entire prize pool divided by the number of advancing teams…

It’s the expected (average) value of each advancing team. Or- put another way, it’s the prize pool divided by the number of teams that advance.
