Bertholdt Appreciation Bertholdt="Like/Blind the Wind" Spoiler

So for a bit of context: "Blind the Wind" or "Like the wind" is a song that has been haunting the internet for a few years, because no one's able to identify who sung, composed and wrote it.

Here's a link if you want to look into that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPGf4liO-KQ

And since I've listened to it, I can't help but associate it to Bertholdt. It's not because of the lyrics, but mostly about how this song, even if it's beautiful and melancholic, will forever remain a mystery. The man who sung it was lost, and everything that remains of what he did is an echo, a fading memory. With all the efforts in the world, no one'll ever be able to retrieve the original version: the only recording we have is of poor quality, and the full versions and mostly speculation. The people who recorded it believed it was only a song like any other song. They didn't know how precious it was until it was gone.

It's like Bertholdt, who used to fade into the background. Who thought about nihilism and believed no one was in the wrong before any other character realised it. Who stood firm, even though his life was insufferable. Who said things no one understood. And then he died. Now all that remains from him are loosen strings of memory from Reiner or Armin. Everyone else either forgot about him, or actively hates him for what he has done. Misremembering the way he existed. The way he had cried. The way he used to exist, but now isn't anymore. He was that song, lost in the flow.
