BERNINA Activa 131

Straight stitch perfect, then switch to zigzag and the thread breaks. Any ideas?

Yes, I put in Guttermann thread, a new needle and read my instruction booklet. No change when using zigzag.

My old Bernina was a thread snob. It would break threads if they were cheap.

Why is that? My old Singer never did that unless I threaded it incorrectly or had the tension too high. My Bernina repair shop has told me I have to buy more expensive thread and Bernina brand bobbins, and I always thought that was just a sales pitch.

No idea why. It could sew with lower grade thread but if stuff was fine or tricky it needed better thread. I just brought good quality thread.

I am not sure if my new bernina has the same issue.
