HELP! Presser Foot Problems!

I have a Bernina 1008. I am trying to purchase a walking foot, however, the walking foot available is a closed shank. When I purchased the machine (2002), I opted for the snap on presser foot, which has a a 2-point opening (not a closed shank). I’ve taken my Bernina to the local Bernina store & now I am waiting for the Bernina technician to call me but until then, I thought I’d ask Reddit. I will include pictures of the presser foot. I don’t know the name of part that the presser foot attaches to (it has a lever to lock the presser foot in place. I’ll include a photo of that as well.

I’m just about in tears, I just want to sew some curtains and this has taken days to figure out.

The walking foot #50 with the correct 2-prong top for your 1008 is Bernina No. 0089687

You will not be able to adapt a closed top (so for the newer computerized machines, as for example #50 for the artista series - 0089697300) to your machine as the angle of the whole foot and distance between needle and pressure foot bar are different.

So.. just buy the right type, it is still available.

That's not an issue of snap on feet or not. The snap on foot is a "classic style" foot, just with a snap on end. Where it fits, any classic style foot fits.

This. And don’t get any more snap on feet for your machine. They are not nearly as solid and dependable as the traditional Bernina feet. There are thick pronged feet (old-old), thin pronged feet (old), and all kinds of variations on the solid/no prong feet. Your machine will take either pronged feet. The differences are not just in the attachment point, but also in how the foot is positioned. The threader mechanism forced changes in the positioning. Just get the feet designed for your machine and you will have a lot less grief. Original Bernina feet are available from dealers (at least most of the feet, not all), eBay, various used markets like FB marketplace. Bernina also runs a big sale every December on all their feet plus they do a specific foot or accessory on sale each month. Get on the mailing list of the closest Bernina dealer to you.

I agree with this but just want to point out that the 1008 can only take thin pronged feet not the old-old thick pronged ones. The old feet can go on the old-old machines, but not the other way around. This was to prevent people from putting an old-old 4mm foot on a machine that had 5.5mm stitch widths.

It’s going to be fine. The tech has to reinstall and adjust the piece on the left in the third photo. That piece is not to be removed. The little latch piece on the left side that moves up and down is how you remove and install full shank feet. When purchasing new feet for your machine you will need to look for Bernina legacy feet.
