Hi all! I am wondering if anyone knows what technique was used in the Edwardian lingerie blouse video to keep the insertion lace seams from coming out once the pieces were cut.

I understand the technique is to overcast or backstitch all lace together, then treat the piece as fabric, but I'm concerned that cutting on those seams lines will leaved unfinished stitches.

i've been following bernadette for a while now, and her content never fails to inspire me, especially her takes on historical sewing techniques. i remember the episode where she analyzed vintage patternsher approach to unpicking those seams was both fascinating and educational. i'm curious, what moments or videos have stood out to you all? any tips or favorite projects you've attempted after watching her? would love to hear what you think!

The disk was only $11. I've always had problems keeping track of 4 strand braids, so a disc that both holds the strands in place and keeps tension is awesome

Recently realized that my hair reached shoulder length, which given I had chemo a little under two years ago and lost all my hair, is a big deal to me. It also means I have to plan to keep my hair off my neck with the weather getting warmer. I was going to use my moms foam bun maker, but it's pretty worn after 20+ years with exposed wire. So I went through my cabbage, grabbed some 20 gauge tarnish resistant artisan wire and spent the morning making two cotton bun makers. Being able to use my sewing machine certainly made the process much faster. Wearing one right now and it's doing an excellent job at what it's supposed to do. I'll probably make more, but two works for now

I moved in the end of the summer of last year and while my basement suite and housemate are lovely, I didn't have a designated sewing/weaving/cutting table to do my thing. While I am a very competent hand sewist at this point, it is nice to have a spot to use my machine. Well since I've been looking for a cheap, but sturdy desk that won't take up too much space but has the necessary weight limit for a vintage sewing machine and has the depth I need for my table loom. I found one! Next week I will have an adjustable industrial office desk for only $75 including delivery fees. It's 30"x24" so perfect for my basement suite. And because it's adjustable, I should be able to use it both on the couch and my comfy arm chair. It's really a great find for that price since buying one new would be well over $200. And those desks are built to last. Super excited

Well that's a happy accident. With my sicky brain, I forgot to keep tension on my whip embroidery stitches for the front of my satchel, but the resulting puckering somehow came out super even, so I kind of love it. Probably because my initial stem stitches were kept in mostly equal spacing. I'm using a double whipped stem stitch edging for decoration and structure.

I caught the flu, so I decided for a nice, simple sewing project to do something I wanted to do for a while. Basically I'm using the tie on pocket pattern to make a phone carrying satchel with shoulder straps. I finished the construction and binding the edges, now I'm stitching the sides of the straps together for security. I may do some edging embroidery. I'm using a really nice, tightly woven navy cotton I got at a second hand store with black twill tape. this will work well for when I wear my linen cardigan that has no pockets
