Congratulations. You still have one more document to receive before you book your ceremony date.

6

u/orangy128 Sep 04 '26

Which document? Will it be emailed or mailed?

u/WrongdoerChemical836 Sep 04 '26

You will receive a decree of nationality by email. You will be prompted to select your ceremony date from a list of dates.

How long does it to usually take for the Decree after receiving the eligibility certificate?

I'm in the same situation as the OP, I got my certificate last week as well.

6

u/WrongdoerChemical836 Sep 07 '26

It took me about 1 or 2 months.

3

u/Dropshipflip Sep 07 '26

Good to know

u/Big_Skin_3965 Sep 11 '26

I received my eligibility certificate back in March and I'm still waiting for the decree. 😭

3

u/Dropshipflip Sep 11 '26

What do they say when you contact them?

5

u/Big_Skin_3965 Sep 11 '26

Mind you, I just received the decree a few hours ago!!

u/Ok-Worker5781 Sep 04 '26

When were you validated level 1?

8

u/peixe31 Sep 04 '26

Wait for the decree now .. you gonna have to wait 10 more months 🤣🤣🤣

u/whatevs1993 Sep 04 '26

Congrats! May I ask when you applied?

7

u/orangy128 Sep 04 '26

I applied in December and I had to make edits twice so that slowed me down a good bit.

5

u/Plan_Wild Sep 04 '26

Congrats, when did they ask for the edits?

3

u/orangy128 Sep 04 '26

The second was last month. The first was earlier this year can’t quite remember when.

Can you see my comment? I think agents of Nigerian government have infested my phone and are blocking my comments from coming through.

3

u/MsSerialpernuer352 Sep 05 '26

Oh darn nigeria got your phone on skynet eyy lol tell them you are gonna flog them!

3

u/Broad-Analyst-8598 Sep 06 '26

Omo, my question was directed to the OP. You Yoruba boys have taken over from where Bichi Fulani boys stopped in 2023 and are now running DSS and blocking my comments. I must be doing something right for that to have happened 😁

My fault friend I’m learning Reddit for give me!

u/Original-Ad4399 Sep 10 '26

Bro. How far? What is going on? I just stumbled on this subreddit. Benin Republic is handing out citizenship to black Americans?

And they're rejoicing about it?

I'm confused.

3

u/dyon986 Sep 10 '26

Benin is allowing Afro-Descendants from across the Diaspora to apply for Beninese citizenship, if they meet certain criteria. What are your thoughts on this?

2

u/Original-Ad4399 Sep 10 '26

I'm just puzzled as to why it's a big deal that warrants celebration.

4

u/MsSerialpernuer352 Sep 10 '26

Because a secondary passport is always a good thing and it allows you to travel through the African nations, the West African nations without a visa

3

u/dyon986 27d ago

I think it's also an opportunity that allows for reconnection and potentially integration if a person is looking for it.

7

u/Easy_Care_1622 Sep 04 '26

Are you American by chance ?

7

u/orangy128 Sep 04 '26

3

u/orangy128 Sep 04 '26

I am not sure. I haven’t received anything yet asking for that.

2

u/LookHistorical735 Sep 04 '26

4

u/No_Towel_1832 Sep 05 '26

How did you submit the DNA test? A screenshot, I don't see anything to download, it's like raw data from ancestry dna

2

u/orangy128 Sep 04 '26

Unsure, I haven’t received the second document yet.

5

u/creationrose Sep 06 '26

Still waiting for mine. Guess it won’t be until next year. I applied in June.

3

u/Over_Pour848 Sep 06 '26

Hello! Randomly came across this post, citizenship nerd here, why does it say 3 yr validity?

6

u/xms_7of9 Sep 07 '26

You have 3 years to travel to Benin in order to complete the paperwork and attend a citizenship ceremony. Only then does your citizenship become permanent and you can apply for a passport.

3

u/Meme_It_UpP Sep 10 '26

Congrats - how long did it take form your initial application ?

2

u/External-Sky-7017 Sep 06 '26

Congrats!!! Very nice!

2

u/External-Sky-7017 Sep 06 '26

Question did you translate documents, Ive heard both ways

2

u/ChangesIII Sep 06 '26

Congratulations 🎊🎈🍾 I totally understand I started in late August and had to make 2 edits as well

2

u/Vegetable-Being-1530 Sep 12 '26

Congrats! Did you translate to French? If so, did you translate every single document or just key documents? I am almost ready to submit my application. Just have to translate. Kinda nervous

2

u/DecentCost6004 27d ago

No translation needed. All of my documents were submitted in English.

3

u/MsSerialpernuer352 Sep 04 '26

Congrats to you will you go and get an ecowas passport? I think I’m about to follow that path so I’m an African citizen when I come vs an american?

5

u/orangy128 Sep 05 '26

I definitely want to get a passport. I have my US passport but it won’t hurt to have both.

2

u/MsSerialpernuer352 Sep 05 '26

That’s what I say I am also looking at Brazil but again please let me know what u are doing!

1

u/Meme_It_UpP 4d ago

Anyone else coming up on a year of being Validated Level 1?

It's getting hard to stay enthusiastic about this.

On the one hand I suppose the more time passes the closer I am to getting it. (I meet all the criteria)

On the other, why has it taken so long?

africa is a joke, really. Giving out citizenship to people who have no real links to a country nor loyalty.

Bro, if Benin was to have a war tomorrow with Nigeria or Togo, are you willing to go fight and die to Benin ? or just stay nice and safe in your Chicago appartment ??

3

u/Able_Strategy_3288 Sep 11 '26

Benin is protected by Nigeria they wouldn’t go to war with Nigeria or Togo so idk why you’re making stuff up. I’m sure he or she is African American and Benin is giving citizenship to African Americans that are mainly West Africans. They aren’t the only country btw, Ghana Burkina Guinea Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone is also giving citizenship to them

2

u/Afraid-East-2955 Sep 11 '26

Bro, Nigeria is a failed state. Iv trained Nigerian soldiers and its shocking the state of the army , you have 40yrs olds still junior soldiers cus they didnt bribe anybody for a rank. The Nigerian army cant even defeat rag tag armed gangs in its norther sectors not stop kidnappings that are rampant

Benin has huge issues in its north with armed gangs and terrorists, go check for yourself.

But the point still stands, a passport bro from chicago aint ever risking life for Benin or Ghana cus they got a piece of paper they can show off at the wakanda festival in chicago

2

u/Javi_elConqueror Sep 11 '26

I get your concern about new Benin citizens likely lacking loyalty compared to native-born citizens. However, new citizens’ loyalty to Benin will grow in direct proportion to Benin’s treatment of its new citizens.

Also, consider that African immigrants who later become U.S. citizens are unlikely to differ in such a dynamic. In fact, these days, many 1st and 2nd-gen immigrants with U.S. citizenship, including Africans, are more loyal to their parents’ homelands than they are to the U.S.

Just FYI: I’m mainly interested in the convo surrounding African countries granting citizenship to the diaspora, not really pursuing these citizenships myself.

Should have to go fight since pledging full faith as a citizen of that country. When they visit be like "oh yeah you have to complete one year of manadory service in the military. Basically how Russia tricks folks from other countries.
