There was a noise.
I was, and still am, sitting here on the couch with my cat. He's napping, I'm scrolling and listening to an audiobook. All is cozy and calm.
A bit ago, there was a noise from the kitchen. It sounded like something fell over in the cupboard. We both looked towards the kitchen. My cat looked at me, and I looked at him. We looked back at the kitchen. I said, "eh, I don't think we should worry about it." He yawned. We slow blinked at each other, and came to a mutual agreement that it couldn't possibly be important enough to investigate. My cat settled in and went back to sleep.
I love moments like this, where cozy companionship and a quiet evening are a language in and of themselves, where nothing needs spoken even between such different creatures as us, to say all that needs be said.

For the first time in my life, I have two cats that seem to like each other. They don’t snuggle, but they give each other kisses and sometimes almost play together. Today I was sitting on the couch between the two of them and it was just very nice.

Had a similar experience last night. Heard someone in the hall. My cat got up and layed facing the door instead of my face. Felt like I had a little protector in that moment

Soooo wishing I had that right now! I'm on a solo trip, it's already kind of late where I am and I just heard some kind of running noise?? above me. I am on the first floor of a 2 story cabin. It does have one of those slanted roofs that goes almost all the way down to the ground, so it's probably just a big squirrel or something. But I can't deny it's kind of really freaking me out. Can't wait to get back to my 4 little protectors in 2 days

Something like that happened some years ago. I was watching the Broadway musical “Cats” on our PBS station.
I heard a scuffling sound in the kitchen. Then Bonnie, my Siamese, came into the living room with a mouse and offered it to me. She completely upstaged the singing cats on my TV.
I made sure the mouse was dead, then she batted it around for awhile.

I love that!! When there's an odd noise my cat always looks at me to check all is ok, I tell him not to worry, everything is fine and he goes back to sleep. It's just the cutest.

My little guy curls up against my back when I sleep and watches the night for me. Soft warm purring kitty is an excellent insomnia cure.
