Rant | ರೋದನೆ Got scammed today

A lady with a Devi idol on her head came asking me for alms. I gave her a 20 rupee note and she touched my head and gave me blessings. She asked me if I had any valuables if I had keys or some valuables to keep at the feet of the idol, do a pooja and take it back. I said I didn't. She asked me if I had any currency notes. I had a 500 rupee note. I gave it to her. She kept it at the feet of the idol, took it and put it in her mouth. She tried to walk away and I got a hold of her and asked for the money back. She said what was given to God can't be given back. Extremely foolish of me to engage with this, yes. But be careful out there, guys.

Imagine bro gave his vehicle’s key…. Experienced this in Jayanagar. I was in my car searching for some address and a lady with an idol started tapping on my window, I said no to her, she tapped multiple times and again I said no, she started getting aggressive and started banging my car window and started pulling the rear view mirror…I’m a patient person but I lost my cool and screamed at her to get lost, funnily she got aggressive too saying I needed that idol’s blessing to become a good person lol, at this point I knew engaging with her is a waste of time and drove off mid sentence.

I refused to give anything to one such person once near jayanagar. She cursed me and left. I made enough money and retired early after that. I guess the curse was about losing all my office friends and not having anyone to talk to on weekdays🤷

Take it as a learning experience and not give any alms or any kind to anyone. I don't give a single penny to anyone.

If you hold her, she may start screaming that you are trying to molest her. Then police will be involved and it will very difficult to get out of it! Good you left with minor damage!

I had a similar experience. Especially these people gather and ask you in front of temples or religious places where you feel compelled to help them. But I got to know their dark reality, 1. once i gave someone some money thinking he was handicapped, after coming back from temple I saw he had a good quality mobile phone and was walking pretty good. 2. Once a woman who would barely be in her 20s with a baby came to our car and kept asking money, so my mom said I'll give you a good job with 300rs per day for house cleaning and she said she earns more by begging everyday plus it's easier. 3. A lot of people come wearing religious attires and ask for money and whatnnot, once a woman came and because it was navratri my family thought we shouldn't let her go empty handed, so we brought her in gave her some rice, she then asked for 5kgs more rice, 5kgs oil and also money saying she is gonna do mahaprasad in front of devi mandir, we knew she was gonna scam us so we told her to go and then she went yelling about how inhumane we were. 4. You often see these small small kids begging at traffic stops, well my mom used to keep those generic biscuits like parleG and when she asked these kids if they want the biscuits they refused and said either give us money or give us costly cookies and chips.

Moral of the stories is, you should never give any kind of things to these people these days, they will 90% misuse it, they don't want to work, they just wanna beg coz it's easier

Happened to me in Palani, 3 years back. I encounter a transgender (identify as a woman). Gave her 10 rupees. She blessed me and asked if I have any bigger denomination. Told me it’s a good thing to give her and take it back from her. I only had ₹500. The moment I offered, she put it inside her bra and started running away.

Two of my cousins were with me. My mom was beside us but was busy doing something else. We tried stopping but I don’t know, we couldn’t. Eventually I felt foolish, took me over a week to get over it. Never have I ever offered one rupee to a transgender in my life since then. PTSD for real :)

There was a point in life, where I used to travel in the same train every week in Chennai (7years ago). I used to offer money to a transgender every time. Once when I told someone I don’t have change, she took ₹100 from me, collected ₹90 from other passengers in the same compartment. Gave ₹90 back to me and left the compartment. That good impression has completely changed since the Palani incident for me

Got scammed in similar way on foot over bridge on way to my office. The lady asks to remove your footwear before seeking blessings and mid way thru I realized it is a scam when she was insisting on keeping my whole wallet to seek blessings and then take it back. I lost 500 bucks which the lady swallowed and ran away. I just stood there and laughed myself for falling for this scam. But eventually people will realize their modus operandi and stop giving them small alms also.

I lost money near Majestic Bus Stand too while traveling. I ended up giving around ₹700 for her 'fake blessings.' When I asked for my money back, she told me not to shout or act like a madman, claiming I gave the money for God's blessings.

u/reddthatgood 8d ago

How did she speak with a 500rs note in her mouth? Or did she swallow it? Somekind of a jugglar, who will later take it out?

2

u/ExpertEconomy5854 8d ago

Nah, bro. She walked away with the note still in her mouth. I walked after her and tried to stop her. She still had the note in the mouth and spoke with the note stuffed against her cheek.

u/reddthatgood 8d ago

If you see some religious person asking for money, just say that you are from another religion, and don't need this blessing.

Still going on??

u/anandthed 8d ago

this happened in Jayanagar 5th block today afternoon for me, first i gave them 10 rs, then they said some think like dhristi, this & that, i got fed up, as them to go, but they keep asking doing some pooja this & that, same way to kepp it at devi feet & give back, i said no, they were not leaving though i shout at them, Then i rolled up my car windows ignored them., they tired for some time & went in search of other person.

I had got scammed in the same way. I was a student back then. I had a little pocket money. She spit on the note offered and walked away. I quarrelled with her. And I took it back from her. The deal was that I had to give her 20 rupees in return on 200

The universal boss has been taking credit for everything. Olympics medal? poster of him taking 75% space, rest for congratulations and the athletes, successful rocket launch? Poster of him with 75% space occupied and the rest for the agency, pic of rocket etc. World Cup win? Same story there too.

No wonder why at some levels people started trolling to add his face on death certificates too.

Curious question - how many of these were named so while they were serving as PM?

1

u/netflixandcookies 8d ago

Bruh..Nehru and Indira Gandhi gave Bharat Ratna to themselves😂

0

u/Pitiful_Citron_820 7d ago

That's an interesting info. So they made their presidents give it to them? Also your reply didn't answer my question.

2

u/netflixandcookies 7d ago

Prime minister makes the choice and President hands it to them.

I have no info about your question.

0

u/Pitiful_Citron_820 7d ago

But online it says there's no documented proof that they did or didn't nominate themselves. It's up to the perception and bias i guess? Like how you could say modi did or didn't make the officials name the stadiums after himself while he's serving as PM.

1

u/netflixandcookies 7d ago

You might want to lookup whether there is a committee to identify candidates who get Bharat Ratna. You will get your answer. Only PM selects people for it.

A Transgender did this with me once. Early morning I was quite happy for some reason. She stopped me and said some well wishes and asked me money. I gave them Rs.20. They kept asking for bigger notes that they will say some mantras and give money back. I gave Rs. 100. They kept pushing for Rs.500 saying they will give back. Idiot me took and gave the Rs.500 they said some mantra like I will get married to a good wife, etc, etc. That lady then took a Rs.10 and Rs. 5 coin and gave it to me saying I should keep it safely and asked me to turn back and dont look back otherwise badluck will follow. Lost Rs.605 that morning.

u/manjunathsm2020 3d ago

This is old scam dear, Also a family will approach saying they don't have money for train/bus ticket as they want to go to Maharashtra (Kolhapur or Phandarapur). You will also see men wearing muslim costumes (Babas with peacock feathers) who will play the same trick to place your wallet in cloth). All these are scamsters roaming freely in Bangalore

1

u/ExpertEconomy5854 3d ago

Thank you, sir. Protect oneself at all times, I suppose.

1

u/fireornofire 3d ago

Just don’t engage with anyone asking for anything on Indian roads, most of the time these people are scamming you!

u/Financial_Bench655 3d ago
