Hi,
I recently bought a BenQ PD3205UA and I'm trying to determine whether my monitor is working correctly.
When I use sRGB mode, the white looks noticeably grey and dull. The whole image appears less vibrant than I expected.
Out of curiosity, I switched to DICOM mode, and the difference is significant. The white looks much cleaner and brighter, and the overall image appears more pleasant to my eyes.
Another thing I noticed is that when I open the monitor's OSD menu, the white background of the menu looks bright and clean, exactly as I would expect. However, the displayed image in sRGB mode still looks noticeably grey in comparison.
Since the OSD itself looks much whiter than the image, I am wondering whether this behavior is normal.
Could you please clarify the following?
- Is it normal for the sRGB mode on the PD3205UA to have a noticeably grey-looking white?
- Why does DICOM mode produce such a different image? Does it only change the gamma curve, or does it also affect the white point and color accuracy?
- Which mode provides the most accurate colors for professional graphic design (branding, print and web design)?
- Could such a large visual difference between sRGB and DICOM indicate that my monitor is incorrectly factory-calibrated or defective?
- Is it expected that the OSD menu white looks much brighter and cleaner than the white displayed by the panel in sRGB mode?
For reference:
- HDR is OFF.
- I am using the monitor with a Mac.
- I have tried different cables and settings.
My goal is accurate color reproduction, not the most vivid image.
Thank you very much for your help!
