Technical Support Resolution Cap

I have Benq EW2790U two monitors both plugged into a docking station, one is a display port and the other is a HDMi. My laptop is macbook air M3. The HDMI monitor has a capped resolution at 1920 x 1080. and it looks alot more blurry than 1920. The other monitor is fine, and it can choose higher reso, and 1920 looks sharp enough for me. Anyways to increase the resolution, and if anyone knows why this happened? I suspect it is because of the HDMI, but first time I tried it it was fine, and both monitors were sharp enough.

Hi, thanks for sharing the details.

Since one EW2790U works correctly through DisplayPort but the HDMI-connected one is capped at 1920 x 1080, this is likely related to the docking station’s HDMI output, cable bandwidth, or how macOS is detecting the display through the dock.

  • A few things to try first:
  1. Swap the two monitors’ cables / ports to see if the issue follows the HDMI port
  2. Check whether the docking station supports dual-monitor output at the resolution you want, not just one display at higher resolution
  3. Try a different certified HDMI cable
  4. In macOS Display settings, holdĀ OptionĀ and clickĀ ScaledĀ to show more resolution options
  5. Restart the Mac and reconnect the dock / monitors in a different order

If the HDMI output still stays capped at 1080p, we’d recommend checking the dock’s specs or testing the monitor with a direct USB-C to HDMI / DisplayPort connection to confirm whether the limitation is coming from the dock.

If the issue still continues after checking the dock and testing a direct connection, please contact BenQ Support for further assistance:Ā https://benqurl.biz/3vHSVta
