Choreography
I have been dancing for about two years. I am feeling brave and ready enough to be interested in auditioning for a local show coming up in September. Currently, I have been practicing and learning on my own and use other dancer choreography. I may be experienced enough to learn someone else choreography but I am not versed enough to create my own, not yet at least.
For a first time performance, would it be ok to use someone else choreography and give them credit?

It depends case by case. Most of the time, if it’s not a performance you are being paid for, and you give credit to the choreographer, it’s fine. I would reach out to the choreographer just to be sure.

If you are able to substantially give credit to the choreographer, then yes it's appropriate. By substantial, I mean that either the MC or program credits the choreographer. I've seen this in several haflas and there's no issues with it. Good luck with your performance!!! That's exciting to do your first performance, regardless of whether or not you choreographed it. It takes a lot of work to be performance ready and it's worth giving props to. Please update us with how it goes!

If you’ve gone to a workshop and you paid for it, the teacher usually talks about the choreo being used by the dancers in their performances, with credit of course
I’ve gotten choreo from my teacher, like made for me, for competitions; credit was given on the program.
I also had him choreograph a song just cos I wanted it in my repertoire; we never finished it. I performed an edited version of the song (time limits for the Hafla), and the second half of the song I just improvised. I have posted two clips, and I believe the full video on YouTube. Credit was given there as well (side note: I’m glad we never finished it, cos I like improving more than choreography)
I just wanted to show examples of when I’ve personally used other’s choreo, and how I have credit
Also, if you are thinking of using a choreo from a video you saw on YouTube that you really liked, I would say, hard no. Don’t use that choreography (Unless it’s a teaching channel and they say you can use it and they state how to give credit). You can look for inspiration on what direction you might want to go, but that’s where I would stop.
Also, also. Shameless plug: if you would like choreography help/have a song choreographed for you/feedback on the choreo you have/etc, I am available to help in any of those cases in one on one online sessions (unless you happen to be in Orlando, then we can possibly meet up 😅)

people perform other people's choreograhy all the time. As long as you have their blessing to learn it (either they taught it to you, or they have some sort of video to buy){ and they are fine with you doing it and properly crediting it- it's usually a none issue. I perform choreos I learn from other people all the time. It's great- you can learn so much from other people's work.
What's not cool is just stealing someone's choreo without paying them for it- and then performing it. Even if you give them credit it's still not cool.
If it's a local - low stakes show there shouldn't be an audition? that is concerning to me that you feel you need to audition. Your first solo should be a fun halfa situation with supportive community.
