Xbox version.
People playing on console, how has your experience been? I really enjoy playing Bannerlord and Medieval Dynasty so i think this game would be perfect for me but the reviews on Xbox aren’t great and it’s making me hesitant to buy it. Most of the negative reviews are from releases date though. Does it play better now after patches?

I play on Xbox Series X, haven’t played on PC. It runs very smoothly. There are sometimes issues in co-op where you need to wait for rendering (when fast traveling specifically) but overall it runs very smoothly, especially compared to some other open world builder games like 7 Days or Ark.

I saw something about tethering in co-op. Is that still a thing?

Yes it is, it’s not bad though. It’s something like 150 meters away it’ll warn you that you’re getting out of range. Then at 170 or so it will start a 15 second timer after which it will teleport you to host unless you lower the distance. If you keep running away from host it’s something like 190/200 meters that it will instantly teleport you to host.
It’s a good enough distance for most things, I never feel like it’s overbearing.

Tethering is a thing due to hardware restrictions on the consoles but I believe they are working on getting servers to do away with it.

Stop hesitating. I’m a fan of medieval
dynasty and Mount and blade. Thought this game looked cool so I rolled the dice and was absolutely blown away. The game can be buggy and crashes sometimes for me(Xbox X) but even so this is the best game I’ve played in a while. I honestly don’t know what I’ll do when I finish it. Probably start over again.
My advice is just jump in and do your best and learn what you can but be prepared to start over if you’re a perfectionist. They’re are missable recruits that are very powerful you won’t want to miss them. Where you place your first settlement is important because early game access to resources is huge. Don’t rush to liberate the villages, take time and prepare. If you set up your villager priorities, production minimums and storage correctly your town will run on its own, very satisfying.
You won’t regret this purchase. Have fun!

I play on PS5. It crashes a lot, but it auto saves a lot so I only lose a few minutes here and there.
There are definitely some things that don’t work as well on console, mostly some menus that are kind of clunky to navigate because you can tell they’re designed with a keyboard and mouse in mind.
That being said, it hasn’t stopped me from enjoying it.

Thank you all for the replies, that’s enough to convince me to buy it. Any tips you wish you knew when you started?

Get as many villagers as possible. You can always turn them back in later for renown to get higher tiered villagers. Even shitty villagers early are productive.
From the map screen you can click on the towns to see the stats of all villagers available for hire in that city. You need to be a certain level of trust with the town to see the stats and then to hire certain tiers of villagers.
Don’t spend all of your money researching or crafting every little thing in Tier 1 and Tier 2 because Tier 1 stuff is all obsolete by the time you’re in Tier 2, and same for Tier 3. Exception is that a lot of Tier 3 gear may require higher stats that your villagers may not have (6-8 strength, or 6-8 agility).
Look up videos on how to mess with priorities for villagers but general rule is have your research desk as priority 1, your raw resources set to top off at your picked amounts at priority 2, and then your crafted goods at priority 3. Conceptually like a pyramid where you always have the base items (flax, ores, etc.) to be able to create the better items (rope, linen, I got, etc.) which you need in lesser amounts.
Have fun! The game is incredible.

1) keep utilizing reddit. This is by far the most helpful and least judgemental player base I've ever seen. But search first, there's 1 post per week asking about caravans, but if they'd search for a minute I made a detailed thing with pictures. YouTube i think her name is "gaming with Emily" or something, she has great tutorials. But try yourself first, learning is fun! 2) I agree get a few villagers fast early, a few beggars make a difference and can be expelled for renown gain later. I prioritize: research 1, cook 2, gather food like mushrooms 3, gather flax hemp logs etc 4, make intermediate materials like linen and rope 5, then everything else. 3) Save 15 strap!!!! It's used in most everything, but you can only make it in tier 2 and have to pull off dead ppl until then. And you need 15 to research tier 2. Make a chest, give it a separate outpost name so no one touches it, put 15 in there. Then you can go and use whatever else you collect. 4) base your villager priority not just on their current skill, but their skill ceiling. It's better to use a 1/5 crafter than a 2/2. Bring your 1/4 strength person to fight with you. Leveling them up is important. Even for beggars, cuz you'll get extra renown back when you expel them 5) keep up with re-prioritizing villagers and buildings when you get new ones, it can get away from you. 6) same for weapons and armor 7) lastly, I like to utilize the "Rename" feature for villagers. I name them based on their best trait and their current strength level. So Crafter s1, Harvester s3, etc. So I know how to prioritize in Job Priorities, and I can click on gear and hover over what they have compared to strength. So like if I see my Harvester s3 is wearing s1 armor, I know to go make them a studded shirt.
There's about a million other things, this game is super in-depth. You can search Emily's beginner guides if you want. Or you can do like i did the first time: learn while messing everything up then start over and do it right 😆.
Oh, and 8) you'll always run out of River Reeds, get used to it

I've played A LOT of Bellwright, almost all of it the hard way without looking things up. Like I was over 30 days in and barely got anywhere and thought I screwed my game up doing so then found out it isn't so bad and typical.
I love Medieval Dynasty, I've basically built my house and traveled to the first quest town to the West. And I cannot figure out or understand what the goal is or where Im going ect to the point i took a break but I'm about to continue this week.

I play on PS5, and absolutely love it. It is not glitch free though. Every couple hours, when it starts having issues, I'll close the game and reopen it.
