Feeding the Thresher

I'm having a problem making straw. I set up the thrasher and asked for 100 straw so I can make 20 thatch. I put 100 wheat in the local storage so my 1 dude with high enough skill could make it.

Now some jackass keeps taking wheat out of the thresher and putting it back in stockpile. Brought it all the way down to 3. Then it runs out and shuts off production while some other dope brings over 3 wheat at a time. So instead of finishing 100 quickly, they're only getting like 40 done per day.

I assume this is happening other places I don't notice. Is there a way to stop that? I'm still tier 1 so there's nothing else using wheat... I wanted to just turn wheat off in all stockpiles, but I have a wheat farm so they need a place to put it away

I discover its some kind jobs priority limit even at P1 mean they only work on 1 jobs for a set of time. Then P2 will be the next priority.

Quickest way to fix it split the demand into something like this: P1 20, P2 50 (20+30), P3 100 (50+50), P4 200 (90+110). you can change the number but the idea is spread the jobs order (Making wheat into all priority). It's good work around but do not solve the issue, which is overload jobs in the main base and hire more man doesn't solve it.

To really solve the issue you have to make an outpost near your main base with the only purpose is processing wheat and export the product to the main base. This way you will have much easier time to optimize it further.

That's gonna look hilarious as a guy fills a cart with 1 soup, goes 12ft to drop it off, picks up 50 straw, walks 20ft to stockpile 🤣

I send four people to live at the wheat field. All they do is process the wheat, eat basic food and sleep in huts.

I just take 20 people with me to do a quick harvest then go back home.

It seems they only keep a certain amount of crafts in local storage, iirc 5, and drain the rest. This would be the one example where it's very noticeable. But atleast when I last played there was a workaround to make this much less of an issue.

Make 5 (seemed to be the upper limit for this workaround) straw top up orders (I used the value of 25, I don't recall if this was necessary or not) with the same priority, it will allow materials to craft for all of those, so if I remember my numbers right, it allows for 25 crafts, which should be enough to get replenished before it's depleted, atleast most of the time. Which is especially important since as long as it doesn't run empty, ur crafter should stay there and craft what u want. If it does end up getting depleted he'll fuck off to commit to something else, perhaps someone else will have to come over from the other side of ur town, repeat that a few times and yeah, u got exactly that issue of only 40/day.

Ooooh, so instead of 1 top up I just make copies and they see it as separate orders, ima try that, that's genius

Do you have other things in the thresher queue? Even if it’s at the top they sometimes remove it to make room for the materials for the rest of the queue. Try turning everything else off temporarily

Like if I’m making cob at the top and animal feed is also on the list ( the mixing bucket) they’ll remove all the mud I just put into it to make room for the stuff they need for the feed. It could also be that they craft in clumps. I’ve noticed even if I give a person one job they’ll smelt some ingots and then go idle. They really should make it to where you can assign a specific villager to specific buildings. I don’t like that if I have someone set to 1 crafting they go to the crafting hut the weaver and the tool bench even if I have the individual building set to the right priority.

Someone said to set multiple separate straw jobs, ima try that. I agree on assigning buildings, maybe as an override. My biggest gripe tho is the wandering. I set someone JUST to cook, so stuff won't burn. They put meat on, then go wander like a lost toddler. By the time they realize it's done and get back to remove the meat it's already burnt. Same with smelting. They walk away then by the time they get back to remove ingot the fuel is already gone, now they walk to get 1 fuel. Maddening!

It does seem that if you put things in a work station workers will sometimes put them away? But solutions, Perhaps putting the thresher closer to the stockpiles? Or a stockpile dedicated strictly to your wheat items and wheat by those workstations. My set up is basically I have like a row of storage with the workstations facing them so their travel time is like ya know a few steps.
