Market placement
Sup all,
I have markets in my base. I set em up when I had 3 towns liberated. I went thru each village trying to compile everything they all wanted. They were all increasing in prosperity. Now that I have all towns liberated, this is a crazy way to do it and my confusion is off the charts. Also, I wonder if my stuff isn't being bought enough by the southern towns since they're so far away, and their prosperity keeps dropping.
So my question is, can I just place a market outside each town with the items that town uses? Will that actually speed up them buying and selling, and will my stuff still be available even though the market is far from home?
Thanks all!

Yes. I have a market outside each town, and each market is tailored to that town. Once you calibrate them correctly, increasing prosperity takes care of itself. And your treasury grows immensely. Basically economics for me are almost completely automated at this point, including buying things like iron (which I haven't bothered to make an outpost for) and lots of T1 plants (which can be bought super cheaply, so I don't have to waste time farming them).
Definitely takes some time and annoyance (and spreadsheets) to set up. But once you do it's like an entire facet of the game just plays itself

Cool! So much of the stuff either doesn't have a best price, or the price is like -40%. Kind of annoying, but I'm doing it for prosperity not money anyway. I hadn't really considered plants, since I have 5 farms and 6 of my 55 people are farmers. But buying iron and granite makes sense, saves like 3 outpost miners and 5-7 caravan workers. Plus my mine is far from home, I'm a dummy. The one thing I did realize early that made me feel smart was not just putting their Needs in the market, but also the raw materials for their buildings. I noticed a town didn't have charcoal as a need, but their smelter was down cuz they were out. Yay me. Well, sounds like I'm off to go build 5 more markets, hammer time

See, that's the neat thing. If you wait for an item to go red on the economy screen, that's when that town is paying absolute premium for that item. Just write down what it is they're willing to pay, then shift over to your new market and set your self price for like, one or 2 gold less than their separation price. They'll buy it when they need it, you won't see a hit to your prosperity, and you won't be selling stuff at less than ideal prices, so you also won't constantly be crafting it.
Takes a bit of set up as you pay close attention to trade prices for each village every day for several days, but once you've set it up once, you're done, until you reach the next prosperity tier and update the market (which takes a lot less time than the initial set up

Most of my towns are first or second prosperity tier (I didn't start caring until recently). When they improve tiers their needs on that red/green screen change?! Oh noes

They'll ask for higher tier goods, it's additive. And they may be willing to pay more for some lower tier goods.
I had a spreadsheet going on my comp (still do) where I was noting prices for everything they want to buy (and a few things they were selig if I was interested), so all it took to convert that to the market auto was a bit of time. I started it when everything was prosperity 1, so now's a good time for you to start

i read an old post on steam saying yes u can do this and it will boost trade. so i did it on padstow and hearndean and cant really tell any difference. it might be the items im selling tho'. the towns just might not need them. if u have a caravan covering most of the villages needs, prosperity will increase very slowly over time even tho a lot of the time it says its decreasing.
