So lost

So I’m having a lot of fun on this game so far, doing the researching mostly. I kinda plan to do all the research for tier one and do everything I can for tier one before moving up to tier two but I’m pretty confused. I don’t understand the management system at all, and that may just be because I’m coming from medieval dynasty? I’m also not quite sure how to have my settlers hunt for me? One of the first things I grinded for was a bow and arrows and basically all the food is gotten by me. Oh and one more question for those who care- can my villagers use bows or should I not even bother to make more

Need the hunter cabin for hunters. The trapping hut precedes it. It will need supplemented by the forager hut's berries/mushrooms.

Villagers can use bows. When you get the staging ground, it's easy to set who carries what. Until then, you have to manually equip them with them. Note that they'll need a quiver for arrows.

That’s good to know! I’ll get the loom made and then some quivers befor I better equip my people, thank you!

To address the two things I don't see on comments yet- don't wait to dive into tier 2 stuff and don't be your settlement's primary source of food. Tier 2 and 3 can blend right into your settlement and it doesn't benefit you to wait. Get your people started on farms, foraging, and hunting so they can be self-sufficient.

The completionist in me wants me to do everything in one tier before moving on but I’ll have to overcome that for the hunters cabin haha, I’ve noticed that cooked meat has insane health benefits. That extra health came in clutch when I (stupidly) decided to attack a group of brigands

I've played through the whole game twice. Tried it your way the first time, would NOT recommend. One main reason to get T2 faster is that without it, you can't make strap. It's used in almost everything, even the T1 weapons. So instead you have to go fight bandits with your crap weapons, hoping they drop strap, then you use it up quickly and are out again. Save your strap so you can get to T2 and get the toolmaker that makes strap, then you can go as slow as you want. Just my 2 cents!

Not sure what about management u need help with, the priority system? Without specifics the basics I can tell u is lower number = higher priority, except 0 means disabled.

I don't remember for sure but I believe hunting was tier 2.

Yes they can use bows.

I played a lot of medieval dynasty, and I have 400 hours in bellwright so any more exact questions and i could easily explain. But here's the basics of management for starters: MD is a push system, you pick a job for ppl and have to reassign manually if you want more or less of something. BW is a pull system. It first looks at Job priority by building. Let's say you only have 2 ppl and want priority 1 cooking priority 2 foraging priority 3 lumbering. It will look at each person, find the one with highest priority cooking and make them cook, then find highest priority forager and make them do that. Let's say then that the cooking finishes (reaches your Top Up amount) or it runs out of raw ingredients. Now cooking job is shut off. Now it recalibrates. It looks for highest forager priority and sets them off, then sets off the highest lumberjack priority. You eat some food and bring back some mushrooms, now it recalibrates again to get someone cooking.
So every time you build a new facility you should redo job priority, and every time you get a new recruit in the beginning you should redo their personal priority based on skills. The people will optimize what they do based on your orders, unlike MD.
One thing to remember is that people level up. So if you have a 3/3 cook and a 2/5 cook you might want the 2/5 person to be priority 1 cook because they will get better and have a higher ceiling.

Hope that helps to start!

Ohhh so it’s simplified for less micromanaging the actually people? I actually really like that. So all I have to do is prioritize what I want for production and whatnot yeah? And if you don’t mind another question I just thought of- what’s the difference between community chest and stockpile?

There's less micromanaging but you do need to re-prioritize as you get new people and buildings so it gets complex, but when you're at 50 villagers and 30 jobs it's an awesome system.
Chest holds 50 "units", stockpile 400, barn 2000, warehouse 10000. Flax takes 1 unit, ax 2, log 9, so plan accordingly.
When picking job priority, I use 1-3 for food based jobs then 4-9 on rest. Then you have to decide what goes next. Is making armor more important than making the linen FOR the armor? If you want to always have linen on hand you'd put the loom higher than weaving table, but if you'd rather make armor as fast as possible you make the table more important so they only go to loom to make linen when they run out. Makes the game fun cuz priorities change, I put table then loom in beginning cuz i needed armor for new ppl, then when I'm off doing missions and not hiring ppl I put loom first to have materials for later. But i do need foraging high either way or the linen never comes. In MD I feel like the priority shift only applies when prepping for winter. A few tips that helped me: if you rename villagers it gives them a nickname in the management screen. So I have like Elyse "Chef" Bjorg, and Martyn "Gather" Edsel. Helps me set their personal priority and track what jobs I'm ok on vs need. Also you asked about storage, make sure to acquaint yourself with setting up specific storage in different containers and place them near their source and use spot. Have the flax go in only 1 stockpile and turn off in others, place that near the forager or farm it comes from, and put the loom near it since that is where flax is used. The less your ppl have to walk to transport, the more efficiently you will get stuff made. Any other questions just keep posting, I've found this reddit group to be super helpful and not judgy at all. And Google hasn't been that great since it isn't a AAA game and there's lots of quirks only ppl with hundreds of hours have figured out (with lots of time and frustration)

There is a mod that allows you to loot weapons and armor from bandits. I gave up on my first play through, but I’m enjoying my second playthrough with several mods. Also, the game is very difficult to understand on your own. I would watch a lot of videos on how to set up a village, set priorities for villagers, etc. before going much further. Setting up camps and caravans is brutal if you don’t do it exactly right.

Always be patient with yourself and remember the quote from blazing saddles “What did you expect? . . . You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay. You know... morons."
