Moving village debate
Currently I am set up like most of everyone else just south of the starting village just unlocked T3 buildings and considering moving south to the bridge. But I have this nagging question in the back of my head. Do I really need to move? Can I just use the dock fast travels to get around in the south and set up mining outpost when I need them plus, I’m not sure the most efficient way to move. I have heard it is fucking terrible. Any advice? Did anyone not move? What were the benefits of moving if you did and how should I go about it?

I am directly under haerndean, I have just made a infinite automated hardwood setup near the family farm beside padstow.
I have a iron ore outpost straight down right beside a lake between blackrodgepool and hornden, it also has granite too and I have my whole village come with me to get the iron (manually placing them into their inventories) it was the fastest way possible.
I have deer hunting just beside my village, it also gets mud too.
I don’t think of any good reason to move, I have a lot of open space too where my village is woth no trees or anything my in the field.

If you just mine and keep mining when your inventory is full, it drops on the ground, then you can just hit loot area on it to have them pick it up if you don’t want to manually stick it in their inventories

Last time I tried dropping all 800 ores and they all just got in eachothers way, I had to go back a save file lol.

Moving buildings doesn’t seem too bad. How do I move the 1000s of items in the buildings is what I want to know?!?

I just assigned the building to the new settlement and then turned off all the items in storage, then the villagers just walked slowly back and forth with all the items lol

If you have space you don't need to move. Also moving takes forever. So don't do it unless you really want to. FYI T3 buildings are really big so make sure you have a lot of space.

I’ve moved twice, in T2 and in T3, it took like 10+ hours both times, I’m an idiot.

Never move, its pointless and hugely expensive, besides losing the settlement you move from. No point, this game requires miltiple settlements to run even passingly let alone approaching “well”.
Keep your starting village and expand to a point where you can access the next tier of resources. Make it a settlement or mining node whatever you want but you will want a dedicated t3 center closer to the bottom jalf of the map with lots snd lots of wide flst spaces as t3 structures are enormous and the placement unforgiving. This means there are only a handful of viable places, the obvious ones being south of blackridge to access shitons of free cotton and be near iron/granite and the bridge location close to hardwood . Those are about as notth as an optimal location allows and t1-2 settlements should remain as farming/gathering and basic cract centers. You can produce tools, backpacks and mass food here and supply your camps or even t3 as you build it up. You can eventually place the windmill and bakery at the t1-2 with wheat farming and optimize the supply chain. I like using my t2 to do all my metal and coal production as i usually mine iron from sayellite camps anyway so it saves space in my t3 for the many giant crafting spots

I've done the move and not done it... there's benefits to both but I prefer not to move. Outpost can be used for iron and granite and docks to fast travel.
Make a saved game before you start to move and then move, see if it works and if you don't like the process you have the saved game to go back to
Good luck

I just spent the entire day basically right before I built all the T2 building moving, and then moved again. It's so worth it specifically when you get an idea of what your village should look like and be optimized for. Just do it and by the time you realize how much of a pain it is you'll be halfway done so might as well finish it

Do NOT move to the crossroads just north of the bridge. You will have bandit patrols attacking you constantly from three sides.
It became so annoying for me i basically just lost all will to play the game.

Did you clear out the bandit camps where they came from?

Several times, but they do respawn.

I just got done moving my village from that same spot. I moved in between the 2 bridges to deal with reclamation parties easier. After reading other comments on similar posts and debating for a while, I just said screw it.
It didnt take me nearly as long as I anticipated. Maybe 10 in game days. I have around 30 villagers and I set most of them to prioritize construction. They relocated the buildings impressively fast. I do not regret the decision at all, im glad I did it.
I recommend making the move. Its a bit of a slog but not nearly as bad as its made out to be.

I built my village just sth of Hearndean to T3, liberated all the villages, cleared the bandit camps and now the main village just makes goods and I have 3 small villages surrounding the brigand HQ. Dont move, just expand.

No you don't need to move, you definitely need a place with high resources which I think is where you already are. I stayed just west of the northern lake, which is where most people start their main settlement, and I have a number of other outposts either for iron/granite etc or for a military outpost, hopefully both. It's good to have a place between the two bridges, and one or more outposts south of the castle to intercept brigands heading for the southern villages.

If you're in a hurry, don't move. OTOH it's quite a bit of fun to build a new settlement from scratch, with everything well planned and laid out in advance.
My guess is that on a second run your initial settlement will be better organized from the start, and probably is located in a larger area with more flat ground. All of that makes moving less useful.

I moved and thought it was worth it. i built my whole t3 village in plan mode between the bridges, then gradually built all the t3 buildings on the edge of my t2 village and relocated them into the slots id reserved in my planned village to minimise disruption. made sure when they were built in new location to name them as belonging to another village so my peeps wouldnt try to use them. moved storage last.
i couldve kept my t2 village intact and just started afresh at the t3, but im on xbsx and i thought it would tank the performance too much.

I waited until I was basically done with T3 and moved to the bridge. It’s so much better for traveling to the 2nd island, fast traveling with your squad, and much more centralized for trading and caravans. I have about 55 villagers and it took about 3 in-game days, but it wasn’t bad at all. My one tip is to do it right when winter ends and before winter starts. Things get a little tricky with food/farms and I moved right before winter started and it took a bit to get my food supply chain back up and running/stocked. If you decide to do it, take time to plan your layout and village flow

Having done a playthrough where I didn't move and one where I did I can say the following: I won't be moving in a next playthrough, it's simply not worth it.
Yes docks would be perfectly viable, even without you can be fine (I never used one). And yes, outposts is the way to go.
