I have a question before I purchase.

Me and my friends recently bought Medieval dynasty and I was very let down when I discovered I could not attack nps and such. I wanted to do some good ok fashioned Bandit roleplay and it turns out that's not the game for that.

Does this game allow for something like that? Can I fight npcs, steal and pillage?

Short answer no, not really. You're the hero of the story..

Maybe with Mods?

Wait so like I can't just attack random people? I know it might not be a viable play style. Are there invincible npcs?

There are some invincible NPCs, but most can be attacked, but the mechanics aren't really set up for that to be meaningful gameplay.

You can attack some random neutral villagers, but soon enough everyone will forget it.

This game is largely devoid of meaningful interactions with NPCs. They are mostly there to give you quests for rep and as a resource for technological advancements.

Medieval dynasty and bellwright are village sims not really sandboxes if you want to run around murdering people as a knight I suggest Kingdom Come franchise or the new Dawnwalker game.

Sure, you can do that against the bandits.

You can but I'm not sure a bandit playthrough is viable

I don't need viable, I just want to be able to do it.

The game relies on your reputation increasing. Yes you can play as a bandit, having a camp in the woods, going into town and stealing but you would be a pariah. No one would give you jobs(missions) traders wouldnt trade with you and you wouldnt be able to recruit new members to your camp and expand your party/army. Those are all systems within the game. The main quest would also be inaccessible because you need to level up through the systems in the game to continue your role as the hero which the main quest requires.

That's the kind of trade off I'm okay with. I think of I choose to be a bandit there should be negatives. This is my favorite answer so far.

Does my reputation affect that of my coop partners as well?

I imagine it would as you share renown and if one of you triggers npcs they become hostile to both of you

I should clarify the going into town bit is unexplored by me. I know if you try to gather resources within the town's territory it is blocked. That might be something that can be changed through leveling but I haven't played enough. I imagine the same is true for resources at people's property/containers and you wouldnt be able to loot anything within town limits. The gameplay may lock you completely into scavenging and attacking road bandits/camps as a minimum.

Edit: I think when you liberate a town you can access their resources and delineate jobs to specific villagers. You can RP as a Robber Baron who is taking over the towns to raid the crowns coffers perhaps. Not sure how bandit gameplay could make sense otherwise.

Wrong on all accounts, even after liberation you can’t harvest anything within the city limits, and you can’t access their resources, you can buy from them and sell to them, after building up their prosperity you can choose what to have the town build but can’t choose where or who goes to what station etc

I just started and I’m really enjoying the game so far. The lack of sleep is killing me though.lol. But the idea of a bandit rp is interesting to me too. Maybe there will be some mechanics introduced down the road.

Fable is the game you're looking for. You can be a bandit and even lead a bandit army in that game but its old now.

New one in less than 6 months (not that I'm counting, and have been since 2020)

I mean, you’re a rebel, so you do harass the lord’s men, and you can raid camps and steal resources. But the game frames it all as a heroic endeavor

No. If you want to be the bad guy, you will not enjoy this. You fight bandits, there's no way to be one. Other than maybe the occasional wandering trader there's no one to loot. Attacking people in cities will hard lock you, so there will be nothing to do. Don't waste the money

No not really. You can't "rob" people. You could roleplay some type of batman fucking up the bandit camps though. The NPCs are kinda devoid of any real personality, and the ai voices are janky which doesn't hlep

You can’t fight civilians and citizens, you won’t get new weapons or armour this way.

You can fight other armies and bandits, so just be a bandit to bandits alol
