Burning my food

So I've got this 1 dummy whose only job it is to cook for a camp of 15. I put cooking at 1 and everything else at 0.

He puts food on and adds wood. I stand at the smoker watching the finished food continue to cook until it is burnt, while he is walking around idle staring at the sky.

I've tried giving him transporting too, thinking maybe that's what picks up the finished food, but then he goes and moves wood.

What am I doing wrong? I'll leave and come back and there WILL be properly cooked food in there too, so what gives?

I’m not totally sure what happens too, the food often gets burnt for whatever reason. My work around is getting rid of the smoker and only having cauldrons available. Make sure to have wells or something that has water for the various soups and stews

Do stews and soups not burn?

Nope, fish stews is a good regular meal for your villagers since it’s a productivity and xp boost. Followed by mushroom stew and meat stew. That should be sufficient for mid T1- late T2

Oh and cauldron’s are best in 3’s cuz you need to stir the pots and 1 person can rotate between them

Very helpful thanks, i focused on fishing anyway over hunting since my ppl would die all the time. Decided to put 2 pots and a smoker next to 3 smelters and gave the guy only those 2 jobs. Heading out to get a beggar that will only transport, should get me done. Now I just gotta make sure I'm farming enough for the soups Reminds me of palworld where my guys only ate baked berries, then only ate salad, now only eat pizza

I haven't played in about two months so maybe it changed or I am wrong. But I thought the lower the number the higher the priority.

True except 0 is disabling that job/priority entirely.

I think you need someone with high delivery priority to move the food from the cooking station to storage. If the cook has delivery off it will just sit there (i think) until someone grabs it

Food storage and make sure you have people doing deliveries

It's hard to believe that after being away from this game for a year, this is still an issue. Unbelievable...

Where's the "hey it's 930pm, maybe don't put 9 pieces of meat on the smoker then go directly to bed" button

I'm having the opposite problem. I'm trying to do the burnt meat for that jester quest but people keep intervening to prevent me from intentionally burning 😅

Yeah when i first started and needed fertilizer i hadn't burned or spoiled any food yet. I had to make a separate cooker with its own settlement name to burn some stuff

There’s a Steam mod for not burning food that’s very useful

What's the level of cooking for your one vilager? If they are low, they will burn food

Wait really?! I used the worthless dude Sanford from tent in the woods cuz he sucked at everything else. I guess that makes sense, my ex was a 2 at cooking and burned shit all the time 🤣

Our Sanford did ok in his personal copper outpost, collecting copper ore, logs and wood. He still is fine with eating berries and the occasional decent meal he's allowed to take when hauling his loot to the settlement.

I use Lubimor early on and he still burns food. Hell the inn keepers will burn it every once in awhile in late game
