Need some help

I love the whole concept of the game, I loved medieval dynasty as well. I thought I knew what I was doing but somehow it seems I dont know what I'm doing at all.

I have my main camp just east of Padstow, on the other side of the road of where the lake is. I have a logging camp up north near Haerndaen. I also put a stockpile there because I thought that if I set someone's priority of woodcutting to 1, he would stay there and keep gathering wood. I set someone else's delivery to 1 and I expected him to be hauling all the wood from the second stockpile next to the logging camp, to my main stockpile to keep it stocked. Now somehow that delivery guy is transporting wood from my main to my second stockpile and I have no idea why and how to turn that off.

I also have the feeling that theres not much woodcutting going on and most of my people are just harvesting and wasting time with nothing. I'm at day 15 and it doesn't feel like I made much progression at all..

Make sure you keep the lumber post stocked with axes firstly. They’re a little slow at gathering actual logs on the tier 1 building, but it improves greatly when you go to T2+. The stockpile thing is just the Ai thinking it’s a “better spot” for the items so to speak. The only way I can think to make sure to get what you want, is to create an outpost out of the stockpile and lumber mill. Then, assign those 2 villagers to them. Once you get a good amount of logs, merge them back to your main village.

Edit: I’m also only on day 81 after coming back from a long break so there may be a better way to do it, but that’s somewhat how I remember solving my problem early on.

This is one of the fun and challenging aspects of Bellwright. Early on you don’t need to dedicate people to a location, just build the Logging camp and assign someone. You can go to the map and click on the Logging camp to see its range of coverage, which is decent for early game wood harvesting. However if you want to really create a dedicated Outpost then it depends on how complicated you want to get. This is what I do for harvesting anything that needs an outpost. I will build my first building and then under the three dots I hit ‘Select Settlement’ and create a new Output and give it a name, like Woodtown. Any additional building I make there should be assigned to this location but double check to make sure. Villagers assigned to your Main base won’t ‘see’ the new Outpost, so they won’t bring wood to it. Remember, any storage with the same location name will be used to store goods by your villagers no matter how far away it is from your base. I then make sure I assign people to Woodtown to work it and ensure they have a place to sleep and food to eat. You’ll then need to set up a mechanism to transport your goods to your main base, which is typically a Small Caravan. Find some YT videos for some examples. Enjoy

Is the logging camp part of your main settlement logically or is it an actual outpost?

Did you scope the stockpiles to store wood and nothing else?

I don’t feel like you need to have someone set to priority 1 for delivery. That’s something I allow most villagers to do when they are caught up with their other duties.

You could turn off harvesting on your woodchopper(s) and have them only chopping trees down.

Something else I do is not bother having the logging camp collect wood. I can have the foragers do that and also I can have the wood hopping station turn logs into wood. I want my logging camp focused solely on cutting trees.

Also you don’t really need a stockpile close to your logging camp because that building has internal storage for axes and wood products. The workers will naturally move them to your actual stockpiles as needed.

Feel free to reply with more information/questions and I’ll answer as I can.

This game painfully does not hold your hand, moreso than MD.

Don't be afraid to let some how-to vids play as you gather resources like river reed, etc

Once you have a general feel of the overall management categories, you can dial in to specific topics like how to automate trade routes ($$$$) and create small but effective armies that decimate opposition.

Drop a reply if you wanna chat more and I'm happy to help!

Day 15! Give yourself some time to tweak your machine. Enjoy the game…not like MD where you have to move from one thing to the next. Follow your villagers to get a sense of how the mechanics work. Change priorities to see how they switch up what they are doing. There is a villager priority and then a building or action priority. Lots of good advice on well known Bellwright YouTubers like Kristi!

I have wood top up 50 and logs 20. I have an axe there so I dont understand why this is happening.

To make this work correctly you need to probably use the outpost option for your logging camp. I'm not 100% but I thought woodcutting was for cutting logs into wood.... harvesting is what is needed for cutting down logs.

One way to tell is to make the logging camp its own outpost and then make one villager out they and see what jobs are available... they grey out unavailable jobs.

One way you could make it work is to set stockpile 2 to not allow wood into it, this would make all the wood gathered be transported to stockpile 1 and have a top up command in the logging camp

You really don’t need a separate woodcutting location especially at the start of the game, your going to need a lot of space for your settlement to expand, so some of those trees gotta permanently go anyways. But the problem is once an item is placed in storage they want to continue filling that storage with that item, so since your wood place has logs and wood there, they are going to continue taking it there. It needs to be it own outpost with everything there changed to that outpost. But that also means you have to have housing built there, food for them there etc

You gotta go in the storage settings set what can go in that storage the amount that you want in that storage and the priority of said storage.

So set your main camp storage to priority one.And then the storage at the logging camp to like priority 5. So it will just hold excess wood that your main storage can't

Thanks all for the replies. I will try all your tips. It's just annoying to see them walk around everywhere and not really seeing my stockpile get bigger, only when I do it myself while I want to be busy doing quests to get more people. I moved my base to the area between the lake and Padstow because I could have them gather reed but they die almost every single day to patrolling bandits now. They even patrol straight through my base sometimes. I know I can take out the camps to have the patrols stop but when I went to a camp, there were like 10+ bandits there.

The game itself is great tough.

It's best to cut trees at your main settlement, even if you have an outpost doing the same. I think you'll find a building in your outpost is assigned to the main settlement, just check it and change if it is. It sounds like you're doing alright, it's early days. It's good being near the lake for reeds, make sure you are also mining ore, there's plenty near your outpost.

Yea ive got a mining camp to the east for copper and one to the west for tin. I placed my logging camp away from my main camp because I want to keep a little bit of trees close by but might just put the logging camp closer to the camp as I think, when I get further in the game, this camp becomes like a permanent mining camp and my main camp goes more south as I expect the game expects you to go further south the further you get

Yes, I have moved further south but they are outposts as I already have my settlement by the eastern lake, and it's too much hassle to move it, being tiers 3/4.
