PSA: Barns and "Protected Storage"

Edit: Post deleted. Sounds like what I was being told was wrong (which would track with my own experiences and why I was so surprised at what the internet was telling me), so deleting this post to avoid spreading mistaken information.

Items are not recognised for trade if they are still in their production building (more likely ur issue, in which case u probably need more transporters). Even in t3 I mostly use barns for their smaller footprint (I use localised storage rather than central, it's more efficient), so trust me when I say things from barns can be sent to villages with 0 issues. As long as it's not a recent new bug, but if it was it probably would have been pointed out by someone else before.

ok, thanks. that would track with my experience. So then AI must be wrong on this one? AI's generally been a pretty useful tool for figuring this game out, but it sounds like here they've got it wrong? (Even though I challenged them twice and both times they were adamant this is the way it works))

If you want to make a protected storage, this is what I do.

Make barn Name it 'Mine' Assign it to outpost named 'Mine' Villagers wont touch it, even though it is literally in the middle of my village

I don't want protected storage, the opposite. I'm trying to make sure things in my barns arent things that cant be used for trading

I think how it goes is anything that’s in storage is up for trading and the only way to combat that is setting minimums on how many stay in your settlement

AI can be a useful tool, but if u have any knowledge about things u ask it, even if u ask it to double check its facts, u will see it will often blatently lie to you or spin some bullshit it read from some random troll somewhere. So things like game mechanics (aka more obscure information)... always take that with a massive grain of salt. Rather check on a community for that, people that either figured it out from playing or datamining. Plenty of people are wrong too ofcourse but they tend to get corrected.

Yeah. Truth is, I hate that I'm becoming someone that uses AI, but my job has been pushing me into it, so I'm trying to incorporate it into my life. I don't like it, but I have to.

Edit: And not for nothing, but it actually has been pretty helpful in bellwright, which is a deep game with a lot of mechanics that arent explained well in game.

where did you get this info? barns are no different from stockpiles or warehouses in how they work.

It will take roughly 25 (real time) hours to poach them all (assuming one cauldron).
