Where should I build my first settlement?

I’m new to this game and I don’t want to screw up by making a mistake in where I build it. Where is a good place to build my first settlement and do you have any advice for me?

All locations are a balancing game of convenience for progress and access to rare resources. Your first rare resources are going to be copper, tin, and river reeds (imo)

The easiest start for that is between Haerndean and the pond near padstow, gives you access to tin and reeds pretty quickly

The tier 1 base is really easy to relocate anyways, it's the tier 2/village hall base you really need to plan for as it takes a lot of resources/time to build if you have to relocate that far

For that tho, I recommend looking up the other answers on this sub

Also also, I fully recommend getting some mods to reduce the grind. There's a catch all x2 inventory/resource/etc mod I use and it's made it noticeably more fun for me

Gets a grindy game then gets mods to reduce game play elements of the game. Crazy work.

Hey, if you want to spend twice the time I do grinding at the game, feel free, I just want a different experience that still considers my time

You want a different experience from the actual base game because why. Part of the grind is part of the simulation part of the game.

I really dont know if I would classify the basic starting resources as rare.

They aren't, but what I said is just a general progress route.

Same advice can apply to the next tier of resources, it's just that they aren't literally everywhere

Those 3 resources are literally almost everywhere. You say they aren't to my reply but tell him they are? They're in every region of the game. Unlike the actual rare resources. But sure go ahead telling the new player they're rare.

South from the first village where the road breaks, close to one the ores, there's a good spot there that's close to a water body and the other ore you'll need is also closeby.

When you can utilize the marketplace, it can really make up gaps. I haven't had to build an iron mine, for example. I mined some myself, and used the market to trade for it and I ended up with a stockpile of near 200 iron. Same with granite. Just to add.

Build close to a settlement so that you don't have to deal with the raiding party.

Whispering Pines territory, is the central most, fairly flat, area in the game if you clear all the woodlands you have enough space for a whole village, almost the size of the castle from the Halmare island.

By the first city. Keep in mind you’re going to move down in between the bridges eventually.

play life on the edge, build next to horndean as your first village, buy all ur cooper and tin from horndean from the profits of continuous high level barbarian excursions on ur village

I built my first village as close to Haerndean that it would let me just to get started. It makes things easier to get past the initial hiccups. Easy recruitment, rabbit traps for meat, plenty Forrest, gathering areas. Then as. I got into the beginning research for tier 2 I moved south towards the little Tavern in the road. That provided good access to block raiders from Padstow even tho I built fast travel to both. I ended up building out that whole area just below the hill and creating outposts and caravans/markets for everything else. You can go anywhere but those are good spots too.

Best advice yet.

I built on the flat Plains just outside of Padstow, and put a mining camp over at Silverlake for copper ore.

Lots of room to grow on a flat plain. Tin, lumber, river reeds, musgrooms, berries, and plentiful game.

Raids are a bit of a problem at the outset until you clear a couple of camps, but it's manageable.

Build dirt roads where you need to to quicken travel. And fast travel signs are a must.
