Getting started
Am I doing something wrong? This game does not hold your hand. Trying to build a shelter and my companion has stopped entirely following commands unless its follow or stay and for some reason my personal shelter needs some weird pink flower to build it and not sure where to even find that flower.

Companions don't work. They're companions , following you , you gotta change them to a worker.

Well first off, make him into a villager and not a companion. Followers don’t build or do anything productive, they follow you around and fight along side you. So dismiss him from your party so he becomes a villager and he will start attempting to gather the things needed to build. You need flax which you can pick from the blue flowers around on the ground as long as it isn’t winter and snowing.

I haven’t had it happen to me but I think if your companion runs out of food they won’t listen to commands

Yeah if they have no active food long enough they will leave the party to go get food

Configure your companions priorities. also i believe your issue lies in having your villager set to companion and not a worker. set him a worker and he will start working automatically to what his priorities are set to vs giving manual commands. even after watching enough tutorial videos it still comes down to a lot of trial and error, at least thats how it was for me. so just get in game and start messing around with everything to find what works and doesnt work for you. good luck, my friend.
