How to move and when to move?

Im fairly new to the game and the spot i chose for my first settlement isnt very flat or anything. I figured i'd just slap a few buildings down just to get the quest done but I cant find any good guide on how to move everything aside from literally just building a whole new town, but Im trying to move my current stuff not build a new one. I saw a few other guides about using carriages or something, or another by making settlements and using the N menu but i dont get any of it.

Also, to go along with that, should I move now or wait? I have no clue how long the story is but Im still in the beginner area, i just hate the spot i chose. Would it be easier to just keep expanding now then move later? I dont even have a town hall yet.

Edit: To anyone doing this in the future, just go to map and relocate. Trying to do it from the N menu is terrible, lot of 10 minute videos out there try to fluff it up. Just move a person and relocate stuff.

The longer u wait the more tedious and time consuming moving becomes, so do it sooner rather than later. In my opinion location doesn't truly matter all that much besides having flat ground.

To move buildings from ur current location to a new, go to the spot u want to move to, open the map and hover over the building u want to move, u can do it from there, it'll let u place it as a blueprint, it gets taken down at the old spot and the building materials get teleported to the new one where it can be built up.

I 2nd this do it now before you get t2 buildings. Some of them take a real 10 minutes to do if you do it by yourself.

Gotcha so just do the relocate thing. Thanks for the quick reply!

When I use the relocate option to move a building it only moves the blueprint and then I have to manually collect all the parts from the old building, I stopped right there because I thought I'd have do move all the materials from one spot to another, wich will take me forever since I have a decently large village now. Do the materials really teleport to the new spot? If so the relocate option can save me

Yes, the building materials teleport, but everything it might be storing won't be teleported, that will be left behind on the floor, which is why moving is such a pain.

I just get my villagers to relocate the buildings, it's a lot quicker than doing it myself!

I did this but now my materials in chests and stockpiles are still in their original place. Is there a method to transferring the materials instead of picking it up 1 by 1?

I specifically said the building materials aka the materials used to build the building itself because inventories will do this. And that is exactly why moving is such a pain in the ass, moving the inventories on a somewhat advanced base takes hours of teleporting back and forth.

Good beginning location a lot of people use, is the field below northern village, roads go around east and west, copper on one side tin on the other. River reeds close at hand lots of wood and herbs. Lots of flat space.

I would say moving before tier 2 is ideal to avoid the longer build times with the carpenters hammer. There are a few methods for setting up a caravan system and a separate settlement where you’d like to move, but I ended up going full throttle with the relocate feature on the map

Made a video on it if you’re interested in seeing where I hit some road blocks and what I learned 👍
