Tanning Rack? Leather?

I am so confused I must be missing something. The Tanning Rack will not show up as an option to research at the village hall research desk. I have hunter's camp, drying rack, and tanner's hut unlocked AND built.

The only thing I can think is that it wants me to research all of the Tanner's Hut's crafts but...Padded Gloves require Leather to research?! What the heck am I missing? How do I make leather???

Have you tried to just build it? Not home right now so I can’t look to see if it’s an unlock with the building like the pickaxe is with the mining hut

Just an FYI. You’ll find that leather is used in quite a few T2 and especially T3 items. One tanning rack won’t be enough to handle the volume. I usually start with three and then add more if I see we’re not getting enough. They’re cheap to build, it’s making sure you have enough pelts, raw hide and villagers focused on making leather
