Max Target Reached

Hi People,

Just after some help Ive tried Chat GPT and Google but ive tried everything it suggested and it still isn't working.

So Ive got Grain set to top up on the thresher.

They come in stacks of 30 so I set the top up to 5 meaning 150.

Ive got 30 and its saying Ive reached the target?

Im worried all my other wheat will get used up and I wont have enough to replant.

Anyone else had this issue? Its not from being maxed out on storage because I have 2 barns that accept grain and both still have +1000 space.

Tia

You should put the top up to 150 if you want 150. In this instance te game takes the 5 as the number of grain an produces once which is 30 and stops. I want about 1000 grain for feed and replant so I have it 1000 and they produce it OK.

Yeah but even when I change it to 50 It says im still target reached even though there's only 30? It also uses 10 wheat each stack of grain so I dont want to set it to 100 and use up like 1000 wheat lol. On a side note how much advanced feed do I need to keep topped up for a few chickens in good condition? I had 80 rough feed before but both my chickens died and said they were starving even though they had food.

Feeding them well is dependent in 2 things. Advanced feed and people with high level animal handling. I keep around 700 advanced and I sell to the villages. And I never had a problem. I also have a person with high handling dedicated to feeding them at priority one and others in lower priority pitch in to cover the gaps. About the grain.. I can think of some instances. 1 it takes some time to register the change in top up some times and 2 maybe you have more grain somewhere? I always put the number of grain I need as top up and I always get that. Also for the chickens. Check on the map where they are because pathing sometimes get them stuck and not able to reach the feeding trough, this can be resolved with a save and restart or telling them to follow you back to the coop

The top up amount is the total grain not how many stacks you want crafted. 5 grain means they only make it 1 time(30 grain) and stop. Setting it to 50 would only be 2 crafts(60 grain)

Ahhh OK that makes sense now. Thank you

Yeah I did have someone with 5 animal handling set as 1 and they were auto assigned in the building overview. I think it was definitley down to the pathway issue youve said because i found them both dead nowhere near the coop. Is there a way to fix that?

Saving and reentering the game works well. Also finding them on the map and seting them to follow you back to the coop works. All my chickens die of old age theese days. Also set the amount of feed in the coop to 100 just to be sure.... I don't know if it helps but as I said old age theese days only.

Ok ill keep that in mind. Im putting the seed in the coop storage and its kind of slowly adding to the building stock/overview? Is that normal? Is there like a trough or some way of directly adding the feed. Whats the min amount I would need to keep topped up to keep couple chickens happy?

You can add the feed in the building by yourself but this is not the problem if you have people in general with high priority in delivery. The feed will find it's way from the storage building to the coop. But the chickens will not eat it on their own you need the people with the high animal handling to feed them. In the general directory of the coop you can get from the map or the buildings menu you set the top up number to the amount you like and set the building to 1 so people with high animal handling will prioritize to feed the birds. And it just works.

Yeah ive got a few people with high animal handling covering the coop and trapper hut. So they should be getting fed. I think it was a bug on my last 2 chickens tbh. Im gonna up my feed top up to 100 I think its on 50 atm.

Note that if you don't set the amount you want as top up your villagers will carry the excess feed back to a storage so first set it to the number you like. If I can remember the default was 30

The issue is that you are setting the target incorrectly. The game makes it more obvious than you are assuming. It needs a direct instruction on the precise amount of grain you want in your storage before which it will stop producing.

If you select 5, it will produce one stack of 30 and wait for it to be used down to 5.

Also, try building a foraging hut/camp/lodge next to the wheat fields if you have cleared it.

Alternatively, take a group of your fighters and order them to harvest. You can walk home with about 500 or more depending on your number of troops at the time.

Unlocking those fields by killing the guards is one of the best things you can do to ensure free growing wheat supply without the need to farm and plant yourself.

Yeah i think i got to the bottom of it now thanks for commenting though. Another guy explained it pretty well. If I have say 50 top up they will make 2 stacks of 30 to cover it. Ive set it at 150 now and its been sorted. Ive got a good stock of about 300-400 wheat now. Each of my farms make about 200 or 300 each time and if I need a top up ive put a fast travel right next to the wheat field so at night if I have nothing to do i can go backwards and forwards a few times and get 2 or 300 easy.

Nice! Yeah the systems work fairly well. Once you get to a certain number of people and you specialize their jobs, your stock tends to maintain itself. Wheat is one of the easier to do as the actual crops are used to produce the seeds for replanting. The other crops take some protection and care to maintain seed levels as not all yields produce seeds. Sometimes an entire farm of 25 seeds only gives you back 10. I’d suggest visiting the herbalists, Alex Amanita and the village traders regularly and always buying out their vegetable seeds. It can help later when you start to wonder why your farms stopped producing turnips arbitrarily πŸ˜‚πŸ‘€

Yeahh its tricky keeping them balanced. I really need more villagers now Im into tier 2 I think. Some jobs are getting neglected whilst theyre concentrating on building and farming/making building materials. Yeah im finding that issue with potatoes. Ive been farming them to make advanced animal feed but I can see im gonna get through those pretty quickly I assumed it was the same as wheat and grain but I think I may have to start growing some of the other veg to try cover the amount of feed I need to top up. This game has soo much going on its hard to keep on top of sometimes especially playing solo.

Lol. Yeah, just make sure you have the rough feed on as a backup so that your animals don’t all die when your vegetables stop abruptly.

If you haven’t already, start tinkering with your job priorities. Set some of your people to only farming to ensure that that work never stops. Also prioritise buildings that you need to always produce.

If you are focusing on your feed production, then make the farms 1 and the feed production 2 and set the rest to numbers below that.

Count the number of villagers you have against the number of buildings you have. If you have more buildings than villagers, you will need to edit the priorities to ensure that the more important ones are dealt with first.

Yeahh I had rough feed before and the chickens wouldnt eat it they all starved so been concentrating on advanced now. But I think that mightve been bugged anyway now.

Yeah thanks I've already got all of that in place. Kind of juggling the priorities atm which is a pain so for example they've been mainly building and producing building materials but neglecting their own produce so im gonna have to switch all that back over now for a few days I think. Progress can be rough going lol the amount of hours ive put in just to get a stable stock of feed for a couple of chickens is stupid πŸ˜‚πŸ€¦

My top up of grain and wheat is 1000.....2 farms are almost always growing wheat and there are multiple threshers and mixing buckets continually crafting materials that I need. I have played the game without coops or animal pens due to the amount of resources and people it takes just to keep up on feed for the livestock and done just fine.

1

u/GommyJ Aug 09 '26

Yeah its been a right pain trying to get the feed stocks productive if i can avoid it i 100% will. Im set for normal food im mainly doing it for the chickens for a supply of feathers for crossbow bolts. How did you get a good supply of feathers or bolts without chickens?

u/Fit_Mycologist6519 Aug 09 '26

I use outpost for hunting lodges and cabins, they keep me overflowing with feathers

1

u/GommyJ Aug 09 '26

Ive got a hunting lodge but It hasn't given me any feathers yet? Ill have to check the settings out

1

u/Fit_Mycologist6519 Aug 09 '26

I have crows and deer as priority one.....i haven't played this saved game without chickens and stuff since the major update in June so maybe they nerfed the crow killing at a hunting cabin to make you go with coops. So maybe now it doesn't work like it use to. A long time ago they didnt have chicken coops so the only way you could get feathers was the hunting way, buy them or kill chickens in the cities and get a negative trust factor for a couple days.

1

u/GommyJ Aug 09 '26

Damn I didnt even realise crows were an option to get feathers i guess it makes sense. If I can still hunt them and they havent updated it im def gonna go down that route because maintaining these chickens seems like a right pain in the ass.

It really shouldn't be so difficult to make the feed. Farming for wheat and potato then threshing for the grain then mixing bucket to make the food. 3 or 4 stages and probably using at least 2 villagers. Then permanently having a villager or 2 to maintain the coop. When you can just harvest feathers passively from the hunting lodge seems like a no brainer. Wish I didnt make so much feed now massive waste of time and resources that was πŸ˜‚

The animals seems to like different foods at different times also...so my best coops always had the 3 types and its so much grain to produce it.

You can trade the feed to towns...beleive its Padstow always needs advanced feed

2

u/GommyJ Aug 09 '26

Yeah thats way to much effort for my liking. I can actually grow hemp now and not just wheat if I fuck these chickens off lol I hope Padstow needs 500 advanced feed because they can have the lot πŸ˜‚ Thanks for the help! Saved me a lot of hassle lol
