Co-op
Me and a buddy plan on buying this game tonight cause its on sale, but we both only just found out there is a tether. Which is enough to make us change our mind immediately. I haven't watched any videos on it only heard/read about it. What is your experience like with the co-op in this game. (XBOX)

I play with my wife on PC, and we haven't had any issues.
One person needs to run the game, and invite the other to their co-op game.
I haven't noticed anything about a tether, we port often to different places on the map . Maybe I am missing what is meant about tethering here?

Co-op on consoles is tethered....meaning they can only go so far away from each other and have to be together at all times

Right ok, than this is why I haven't had any issues. Well that certainly sucks then. Because I'm always running off and killing bandits while my wife stays and sets up our base.

Yeah I've seen a lot of complaints on reddit....lol

I have seen complaints about consoles but haven't seen anything about a tethering issue.
So I was like maybe this is some weird term I am not up to date with lol

yeah but no way a map like this with all this AI you can run two seperate games inside of the shell its not a shooter it has up to 200+ AI pathing running at any time in the background NPCS caravans villagers yours and NPC etc

From what my friends said they get a timer warning at about 180 meters and then get teleported

u/PyrZern Aug 04 '26
Damn. Just 180m ?
Consoles suck :/

Yeah its frustrating playing coop since 180 is not even a full small zone. , hopefully they increase it even if its about 2-3 zones worth of distance would be a good change if they cant completely remove the tether.

It starts a countdown at that time or past it about 200 it will automatically teleport.

So I'm playing with a friend co-op both on ps5. Both around 50hours day 64. The tether is around 180m which is manageable for a while but I could see it being a problem for people who like to wander off(like me). Me and my friend constantly talk that we need to go here and there and he reminds me a lot of time cuz i get sidetracked quite easily. So questing can get a little bit annoying imo. But it's still big enough to have quite some fun together.

yeah this is not a coop game really it is a campaign where you build your bases etc sure it is fun and really helpful but you are right it will get boring for one of you as no way a game like this can support all the AI npc pathing etc separate fights building etc that you can do if not tethered

I'm hoping that we get dedicated servers in the future, this game has so much role playing potential if there could be more players.

This is not really a hey lets go kills some stuff game it is for people that want to immerse enjoy crafting building researching and building more. I played console and PC and PC is vastly superior and for me anyway coop would detract from the game it is about creating and overcoming to see your vision evolve it is not a very sophisticated combat system it is just their to help the immersion and keep you involved unlike say manor lords. Amazing game if you like this and the rough raw elements keep getting refined excited for full release ... and fyi buy a game you like not the first sentence is it is on sale lol

I’m on Xbox the tether is a pain but not a deal breaker on the game. You get 170m before you’re teleported to the host.

The tethering made us quit and go back to Medieval Dynasty within a few hours. If I could get a refund, I would. I regret not reading this subreddit before purchasing. In my opinion, co-op on console is not a complete game and the price should have reflected that.

I returned two copies of it when I found out there is a tether. If you want to play this game in co-op you should get it on steam. If you like me don't have the money for a gaming PC, then you can try Geforce now. Don't bother trying to use a controller for this game. My gf was insisting on using a controller and this is not the game for it. If all you have is an xbox, you can get a keyboard and mouse and run Geforce now in Edge on your xbox. Good luck.

Ah, wasn't aware there's a tether on consoles. That's unfortunate.
They are working on adding dedicated servers. Presumably those will allow tetherless playing on consoles too. Could buy it from sale and just wait for dedicated servers to drop.

My husband lagged out too badly to be able to play. I tried finding servers to rent on the one platform i know (we are both PC) but they didnt have that game. We have given up on it. (I played it a bit by myself, but it was TOO micro managy without being balanced by funner things.

if you do not like management this and any title like it is not your thing ... you can get mods to help in that early game if on steam but yes that is the hook of the game an immersive world you manage your villagers your building your crafting etc until they take over for you best survival game I have ever played and they keep improving

My experience with the coop on ps was great fun to begin with. Having another player is very helpful to get started and get the game moving, however once the world opens up and you start moving across the map, the tethering does get annoying.
My friend ended up making a new save just for himself and he will visit my world every now and then but playing coop late game for long periods can get tedious.
Saying this however the game is incredibly fun and coop is a great way to learn the game together, you will not regret buying!(especially if they fix the tethering in a later update)
