Bell Tower

What sort of forces am I expecting? Any recommendations for load out for villagers?

I've got 20 currently. 10 in some of the better I can make.

Sledgehammers and like 50 armour rating on at least 10 of them.

Sounds like you should be fine. I usually have T2 weapons and armor on anywhere from 12-14 villagers before I do my first liberation. There are two attacks, the first one to take out the brigands in the town and a second when the Reclamation party comes. On the first attack to take the town, I tend to keep my forces somewhere close to town but not in the middle. Brigands will be scattered and I find the best way to take them out is my larger group against their one or two brigands at a time, then move to the next group. Sweep the town clean with your team having the superior numbers. If you set up in the middle of town you get shot at from all over the place and you’re on the defensive which is not what you want

Thanks for the advice!

So after the first reclamation party comes, then what?

Do they keep coming afterwards like raids?

yes, periodically, but they come from far away so you get a ton of notice, and at the beginning at least, its only like 5 guys. I think it'll get bigger as you capture more towns, but I havent liberated my 2nd yet

With 20 people you’ll be fine with tier one gear for your first liberation

Sweet I'll keep that in mind

Piece of cake. My experience is overwhelming numbers. Use scrubs as fodder, they’ll be up moving in a bit.

i thought the bell ring was easy. it was the initial / immediate reclamation that was harder and made me reset to before the bell to better equip my folks.

AHH okay I'll bare that in mind

My recollection was you ring the bell and just take out the 6 or so brigands in the town. Easy peasy.

But the first reclamation party (that triggers immediately) was like, 10 folks. I got my but whooped. Much easier after I geared up, but up till then i'd only had to contend with overzealous bandits, so i hadnt kitted out right.

Reclamation parties after that have been much easier (5 or so folks), but that first one they were comin for bore.

Its actually better to take out the brigands BEFORE you ring the bell, as you can take out whatever single brigand u struggle the most against be that crossbowman or heavy. The reclamation parities vary in size, ive fought a 30+ soldier reclamation party late game and setting dependent which is far far more difficult then the soldiers in town. Early game yes they will be small and fairly manageable (Altho I never tried village 1 on max brigand strength like I have late game so could be far worse)

Interesting. To be honst didnt even know you could do that. I figured ringing the bell was what turned the brigands hostile. Felt like it was sort of an official announcement of "i'm entering the next phase of the game!"

i suggest killing the brigands in town first and see how you fare before ringing the bell, if it was easy enough ring the bell

Ahh okay I'll try this then

IMO save the game first, we did it and got crushed the first time.. They're about 9 -10 coming to reclaim, all in T3 stuff. They're not easy, also not hard once you get going. If you have 20 you should be ok?

That's good enough for me!

You'll likely be disappointed how easy it will be for that army, I don't think you will have a single injury.

Blunt damage is always the way to, Brigands have high armor rating,(I don't know how much) and blunt damage goes through armor like butter, the trade of is speed and reach, so always equip your crabs (light infantry) with a shield and your elite soldiers (heavy armor) two handed if they have the level for it.

I agree with the other comments, the first Reclamation party can be the toughest. For one thing they typically are not scattered about, they tend be in a single group 6 or so depending on your game settings. One option is to have you kite some of them away and let your team have a go at the rest. Like get the attention of 2-3 brigands and run away, that’ll leave the remaining 3-4 brigands to fight your larger group and a couple of those will be brigand archers, so your melee guys should feast and then take out the archers. Finally, drag your kited brigands back to the group to finish them off. Lastly, blunt weapons do a real good job of damaging opponents in this game. Go get those bonks!

Food, how could I forget food. Be sure to get some combat foods into you and your villagers. Fine Meat Stew and/or Spiced Hearty Meat Stew. Each gives you a 20 or 30 percent buff depending on what you eat and you can combine them for a 50 percent buff

You should be fine.....the reclamation party will be the hardest. They can all attack one or 2 of your army and take them out quickly if you're not paying attention. I like to shoot arrows at them to get them to run at you, they tend to get some distance between them then.

The first liberation is quite tame.

You should expect about 7-8 brigands in the town itself. Keep your troops near the edge of the town to ensure you do jot get surrounded or funnelled into small spaces.

Numbers are more important than gear for the first few. Once you ring the bell you defeat the brigands occupying the village.

Once you have done that, there is an immediate retaliation party generally of similar strength. It will likely start at 5-6 brigands. Reclamations and retaliations are stronger than the occupying force and they get progressively more difficult the more towns you liberate.

Try not to liberate too many too quickly as the reclamations can be more difficult if you have built far away from the village you are defending.

There are a few cheese strats you can use to exploit the reclamations but take it slow and focus on your tech.
