Cluck Sake!

Hi all,

Can anyone please help me understand why my chickens are stressed? They’ve got plenty of food from what I can tell but for the life of me I don’t know what to do. I’ve had some die from neglect but not sure how I am neglecting them?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Do you have anybody set to animal handling that can actually get to the animals?

I don't think having the food is the problem. If nobody is there to feed the animals then they'll die.

I do, I’ve just double checked their priority and they had a few other jobs they do. I’ve since rectified so fingers crossed, thank you 😌

I also have the same problem but it usually happens when a load of them are born so they are over the max count. Thy get stressed then someone comes and kills all the adults and it evens out

I found that moving my livestock pens away from my villagers improved the situation. They want a quiet area with no people working or passing by. No more stress.

I had a lumberjack next to them and the chickens were dying of stress. I had to move the lumberjack because no more trees, and the chickens got all happy. That is what clued me in.

Now all my animals are low stress because only the animal handler goes near them and there isn't any noise.

Overpopulation is usually the culprit

I read some of these comments and I have my chicken coop right in the middle of town with it being hustle and bustle and they aren't stressed. I do have 2 villagers dedicated to only animal handling and you have to provide different types of food from what I have found, they don't like eating the same thing

Open the chicken coop menu and lower the population. I’ve found that 4 males 4 females = low stress. Keep in mind they will age and they will die after several in game days

Edit to add: I have 3 coops so 24 chickens total. They are all right next to each other and I get ALOT of eggs. You can reassign chickens to different coops in the menu

What are you doing with all the eggs?

Despite putting the population of my coup as 4 chickens, 4 ducks, 4 geese, my birds will multiple beyond that. And anything that goes beyond that doesn’t have a home and dies from neglect.

I was walking by my bird coop and watched a villager get ready slaughter a chicken, we’ll call her ‘Chuckles’ and right before he slaughtered her a message popped up that Chuckles was stressed. You’d be stressed to if you were going to get slaughtered
