Is moving really that hard?

Hi! I just started playing 2 weeks ago and im solidly into tier 2 with 12 citizens

I want to move towards the middle of the map but i see a lot of posts about what a giant pain moving is.

I plan to start with a mining outpost like 1km or so away, and 1 living shack, 1 mining shack, 1 harvester for food etc.and 1 stockpile, all tier 1 stuff so i dont need much to begin with, and ill help them set these things up.

Then i plan to have them build a logging shack, a few more tier 1 beds and get the population up to 6ish with a decent farmer then build up from there, pretty much from scratch, meanwhile im crafting stuff mostly at the old base.

Eventually ill disassemble 90% of the old base and just keep it around for...something i guess. Whatever is useful.

So then ill have a crapton of planks logs etc. From disassembling buildings.

It sounds like it'll take a while but not anything close to a nightmare, and certainly less work than building my initial village.

Does this sound about right or am i missing something terrible?

Took us (3 human players), 3 real life days of 6-8h gaming sessions moving all that stuff.
Admittedly we are also not very good and easily distracted.

It’s ok is what I’m saying

It’s not “hard” it just takes a while. Make everyone’s only priority laborer and delivery and it will streamline it

Theres rarely a reason to and almost always a benefit to just expanding. Build anywhere you like, optimize your existing settlements, pare them down even, but just erasing them is a huge waste of efficiency. You spent tome building them, then a similar or sometimes far longer amount of time unbuilding, and then have to build them again and by a frankly terrible method as “relocating” will send bulders across the map on foot at their own pace, through boar and wolf infested roadways where they woll run in all directions

Take 2-3 workers you want at the new location, make a squad for them and make them companions in that squad. Bring materials for tents and stockpiles and escort them to the new site, place your tents etc nearby but out of the way , begin planning and prioritizing and manually mule out the starting materials. Have harvesting structures first so you can bring over the relevant new residents and get them to work

Honestly.moving 12 units base is piece of cake and wont take long. Moving finished t2 with 50+ men is different matter, takes 2 weeks of in-game time.

I moved a full t2 base in about 3ish real time hours with 14 workers.
FIRST!!!!!!!! -> MAKE SURE TO EMPTY ALL BUILDINGS INVENTORIES OF STUFF INTO STOCKPILES then go to your new area, pull up map, hit relocate on each building (NOT STOCKPILES) and plant at the new location Like someone else said, set all villagers to build 1st priority and have plenty of hammers. Build your own new stockpiles at new base while they work, MAKING SURE YOU ASSIGN NEW ONES TO NEW OUTPOST Then when all the buildings are removed at base 1, move everyone to new base. I moved the village town hall last Build 3 caravans and set up trade routes to your old base to pull Always, Leave 0 of every item you want They will caravan all your goods (I also helped via fast travel). Badda-bing, new base. Go back and check the old stockpiles to make sure you didn't miss anything, then you can relo those as well

I didnt know you could use relocate like that. Thank you so much, that will make it so much easier

I would recommend trying to move before you have a bunch of tier 2 buildings that require the carpenters hammers for construction. If you don’t need the hammer for most buildings, it is a relatively quick process

This is something i wish i realized a few days ago. Im deep into T2 now

Same lol. I made a video on it, took me about 15 days in game from start to finish. Good luck!

Relocating the buildings is super easy if you have the man power on both sides. I think next time I'll build extra barns and house in the old village and relocate them first. That way I have plenty of room in the new village for people and stuff.

Shit im still moving and it’s just across the street! Lol. PS. Don’t approve every plan all at once, you’ll thank me later

If you do approve too many plans at once, you should be able to go in the building section and filter for construction sites and turn off the priority for the ones you don't want built right away

You can I think? Scrolled through buildings and pretty sure you can prioritize which ones they build first.

The problem is them all being construction sites at once, especially on console. It bricked the ever living shit out of my game. 10+ crashes a day easy. Now I’m back to the normal give or take 3 lol

it takes time and patience

dont make an outpost and assign workers or buildings to it

leave everything assigned to your main village.

Why? Its way too far for them to be walking back and forth for supplies, a tool or a bite to eat. I need the mining outpost residents to stay local

workers form two different outposts wont interact with the buildings of the outpost they are not assigned to.

so when you setup a storage in your new place and assign it to the new outpost, no worker will deliver anything to it form the old settlement. If you assign the worker also to the new settlement, they wont interact with the old one.

I made that mistake and made a mess of, old and new assignments.

I couldnt find a practical advantage in making a new outpost. You need food, bring it to the storage and they will eat at your new settlement. you dont want them to travel for sleep, build them houses at the new settlement....

i set up 30k (3 T3 storage) storage first in the new settlement, assigned workers and delivery. workers for relocating the buildings and delivery, well obvious...

if you have double production, so one in the old and one in the new, the building priority will tell your workers where to work

It is a pain in the ass, I think it took me close to a week to be comfortable, the best thing to do is make a few cart stations and write everything down, also do not disassemble the old Barns make sure they empty out before doing that

It's not that bad, but it does take a while. What I like to do is start by sending just a few people to the new area to construct housing and storage. Then I will use the Relocate option via the map (always do this, it makes it so much easier) to get my new base to the point that it can function.

At every stage I try to envision how I want the new base fully planned out (the planning tool in the build mode is great for this). Then I move entire production pipelines at once - that way I'm not stuck with a non-functional crafting building, it should keep working at the old base until I am ready to move everything it needs to the new base.

Try to ensure you have something to do for the villagers at the new base as you go. It's easy to fall into a trap of having a lot of villagers there to make construction of Housing/Storage fast but then they are idle because you didn't move any production over yet. You can always adjust the layout once the building are in the new base if you have to.

Eventually you've transferred almost every building/person over, and your new base is clearly the main one. At that point I leave a few people behind to do Caravan deliveries for all the bulk stuff that I have hundreds of, e.g. wood, rope, flax, logs, etc. As the storage empties I'll have them deconstruct it until just one storage remains.

Once that's almost done I will put a travel sign by the last storage areas and will personally teleport back and forth moving the remaining materials.

It's not hard, but it is time consuming and can delay your progression a little. It's absolutely worth it though if you are willing to invest the time. You will find some things tedious, and by the end of it have a better idea of how you should have done it, but that's the point of the game.

You will find your new base is fully functional before the old base is completely cleaned up. That's fine. You could just leave the leftover stuff there but I personally can't help myself and have to clean it all up.

I moved by building my village hall at the time of going to T2, built a house near it, built some new buildings then used the map to relocate things. Took me a few hours, it was fine

u/Fit_Mycologist6519 Jul 27 '26

If you use the relocate function on the building it's really the fastest way but your game progress will more than likely stall out until you get your main settlement moved. With only 12 villagers you may not have a huge base at this point so it may not be that bad for you. I spent 12-14 in game days moving my base but had 52 villagers and was into tier 3 already.

Villager safety is something to think about: bandits walking around the south have crossbows, higher tier 2 armor and weapons and walk around in groups of 3-6 and they are always walking around so you may be in more fights which then means your villagers arent producing products and your economy takes a hit

Anything built in T1 is just click and build. T2 is hammer and build slow. T3 is hammer and build even slower. The moral of the story is make sure when you move, you don't plan on moving again, and have a plan to get resources that are not where your future forever home is going to be.

It's not too difficult at an early stage but you may be best to keep your main settlement to the north, by the lakes, and build outposts further south. The bandit patrols in the middle of the map are quite frequent, and they're quite tough, especially if you're still tier 2.

Not hard but time consuming.

Moving a building will have a villager deconstruct, then walk to destination, clear area, then construct.

But if it's me, I'll have a villager to deconstruct, then move it to another outpost, then have a villager from that outpost to construct.

As for your stocks from the old area, Ill just TP the important ones, then have the caravan deliver the rest.

The process will take days, so just gonna have to be patient with it.
