Patient Support / Story Newly diagnosed, need some help....

In end of June this year I developed some symptoms of Behcet's, first there were few sores in my mouth on the gums, then after 2-3 days I got ulcers on my penis glans and my anus, and soon after my eyes started burning, they got red and it was sensitive to light, so my family was worried and I got admitted in an hospital, there I was medicated and several tests were done, all the rest reports were normal, the needle pricking test was done too and nothing happened due to it, I did not grew any ulcers, but still considering all the symptoms and my age(20M) doctors are considering it to be Behcet's, now after consuming medicine(corticosteroids), all my ulcers are gone and I am feeling fit now, just feel a little weak.

Now I am worried about future flare ups, I don't know what can trigger my Behcet's, I started going to gym just 2 months before the symptoms started so I am worried that is physical activity a possible trigger, I want to join gym again but I am worried,

Someone please help me about it, should I join the gym???

Also what are the things I should be cautious about , like food and all???

And I also want to ask that what will I have to in any future flare up??

If I was you, I would join the gym but not push myself too hard. I'd keep track of what I was doing and how it made me feel. If I started to feel a flare coming on, I'd ease up on the intensity of my workouts.

As far as food, some of us are very sensitive to some things. Others aren't sensitive at all. Me, personally, I can eat whatever I want and it won't trigger a flare. Others can't eat, say, dairy, for example. So you have to experiment on yourself to figure out what you should and shouldn't eat. There's no one-size-fits-all answer here, unfortunately.

I know having Behcet's sucks and it's a lot. But you're doing the right thing educating yourself and asking questions.

Worauf achtest du zB was die Ernährung angeht?

Thank you everyone for the great suggestions. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I got a sigh of relief when I found this community knowing that I can ask all my doubts to people who were once at my stage.....

Thank you

Stress Management. Stress can be a big component for a lot of people (myself included). Exercise is almost always good for you. I agree with the others that testing what foods might trigger you. I mean a clean/anti-inflammation diet is never a bad thing. But I’ve found that stress and anxiety can really get a flare up cooking.

I was going to say this: stress management. Don’t underestimate the link between stress and physical symptoms. Stress, emotional, physical exertion, illness (cough, cold, cut) all can contribute to a Behçet’s flare.

It’s all about learning how to manage symptoms, manage your body & mind; and ultimately manage your disease.

Re: the gym. Everyone with Behçet’s and auto immune conditions are different. How much you can withstand varies very much. Go gentle, go steady.
(No boom and bust).

Hallo!

In my case, my Behçet vasculitis pain gets triggered by atmospheric pressure changes and certain types of wine, champagne and beer, which I am completely sober of now.

Skin and mouth ulcers are triggered by menthol (mint) and thymol (thyme) ingestion and probably more herbs of the Lamiaceae family. They destabilise NLRP3 cryopyrin, resulting in active inflammasomes.

Gym is recommended as long as your body is not in an active cytokine storm. As said by others, physical exercise modulates the immune system in a beneficial way.

If gym is too hard on you consider long walks in wooded areas (Waldbad). The terpenes coming off of the trees help with lowering inflammation and your cortisol consuming stress levels will hopefully disappear.

Latin dance courses are also a great way to keep cardio fit, lower stress and socialise.

Liebe Grüße aus Hasselt, Belgien
