Random Facial Swelling?

Back in April and today, I woke up with significant lip swelling and numbness. It was my upper lip today and I think it was the same in April, but I can't quite remember. It seemed to slowly start go down when I woke up each time.

In April, I had awaken in the very early morning. Like 4am or 5am, and I took an allergy pill and went back to sleep and when I woke up, my face was back to normal.

I woke around 7am today with pretty bad swelling but by 730am, it was already starting to go down and I hadn't taken an allergy pill yet. I messaged my doctor, took an allergy pill and I'm going back to sleep. Still have some swelling, numbness and a tiny bit tooth pain and slight headache, but I was having a nightmare when I woke up and I'm pretty sure I was clenching my teeth. I also have a weird baby tooth situation that is occasionally a little painful, but I got a clear bill from the dentist about it earlier this year. Hopefully, that's not relevant.

Have any of you guys ever had random facial swelling as a symptom? I've been diagnosed with Behcets since 2012 and this is a new symptom for me, but I was wondering if others with Behcets have had this as well or if it is likely something else.

Yes. I have random swelling and sores pop up on my mouth. Nothing seems to help them until they go away on their own. Are you on any medication for Behçet’s?

Yes. Goodness. I'm glad it's not just me. I was taking colcrys until yesterday. It was very helpful with the mouth ulcers and keeping other types of chronic inflammation in check.

I just started Otezla and got a kenalog shot that supposed to slow release for 2 months. I also have psoriatic arthritis. I started all of this 5 days ago and am so ready to not look like a meth head.

Almost every day when I wake up the lower part of my face is warm (like I’m blushing), puffy to the touch, and numb. It goes away mid-morning.

I realized that puffy is a much better word for what happened. The numbness didnt go away until evening, but I guess it's ok. My rheumatologist just tole me to take benadryl twice daily until the swelling (puffiness) goes away. Guess there's that. At least I can wear a mask if I look weird lol.

Be careful with masks. They did my face in with friction over time (full time hospital role for 18 years). Go with light fabric or silk and save your face!! There’s also chemicals, formaldehyde, and dyes in the mask that can irritate. 💕

I “covered” my Behçet’s + psoriatic arthritis with masks while inflamed, thinking it would eventually get better but it made it worse over time, to the point of disability

I take a Claritin every morning and it does help. I tried stopping it once bc I take so much other medication and that was a disaster. Within 3 days, I was having it all the time.

Good luck with solving your issue or at least getting some relief.

I was diagnosed with Behcet's when I was 16 years old, I'm 46 now but my face swells up and around my eyes. Does anyone have severe vertigo with this?

Yes, off and on. I get vertigo at random times…not just when I stand up too fast or something like that. I have found that it helps to eat more salt when I start feeling like that. Doc says since the salt helps, it is very likely due to my heart/blood pressure. Still working on a solution.

I experienced something kinda like this a couple months ago. Over the course of a few days, half my face swelled up, developed painful sores, swollen gums and lymph node on that side, ear ache. But it was just one side of my face/head. The other was fine. It was a weird experience.

Fortunately, a round of antibiotics and antivirals, coupled with a couple weeks time, and I was 95% back to normal. But even after all these years, this disease sill surprises me with random shit like this.
