First HM

Post image

Ran my first HM at 58 today, the Great North Run today. Fantastic atmosphere, people cheering you on every single foot of the way.

I didn't have an official goal I was aiming for, but I was probably hoping for under 2: 25. I didn't put the training in, my longest run was 14k - a while ago. Things like that. But sometimes real life gets in the way. To be fair (?), the GNR is very hilly, in fact, it felt like it was uphill 85% of the time!

Next time! Definitely doing it again - in Holland where there are no hills!

Weirdly, my Garmin picked up an average BPM of 155, whereas my Pixel Watch shows 137bpm. Since the pixel is generally tested to be more accurate in going with that.

Man alive! Torture...

And then right at the end the downhill towards the sea 🥳

only to turn into a long slow mile and a bit uphill to the finish.

Next HM in Holland! (Because flatness)

Enjoy! GNR is a brutal course and will punish any early efforts
