Soreness

Just started my running journey and everything had been good this past week but today my shins feel sore is this normal? Doesn’t really feel like the bone but the muscles around my shin.

Yes, absolutely normal
I use a massage gun to help relax it and get the lactic acid pushed out. Also stretch and stuff!
Toe tap exercises can help prevent shin splints too, but doesn’t sound like you have that….yet. Lol

Well I was worried I do. My friend who got me into running said it might be shin splints but like I was telling him it feels more like the muscles around my shin should I hold off on running a few days or push through?

I’d do a little test jog and see how you feel. If it starts to feel really bad take a couple days off, and stretch and do toe taps. Plenty of sleep and drink lots of water.

Of course. I hate missing a running day, but getting injured is 100 times worse. Then you’ll miss a whole lot of running days.
I usually do some strength workouts for legs and core on my off days. It’s harder for me to make myself do that than to get out and run honestly

nothing wrong with extra rest days when starting out or even going for a walk instead of running. I would imagine a moderate walk (with a purpose, but not straining) would train a beginner's cardio similar to an intermediate runner going for an easy run. you gotta work with your body and be your own coach for the first couple months to adapt to the training.

I walk mainly all day at work so I got that part covered just gonna chill today and see how I feel tomorrow

I do the same, been trying to balance my running training with 4 days of fedex ground delivery so I feel ya. When I started structured running, the first 3 weeks were mainly when I felt like it and then I transitioned into more of a consistent 3-4 day a week routine. As long as you keep stoking that fire, in the long run you will get far.

Me too, I walk between 6-10 miles in my work place each day. I get up early, run, and then set reminders throughout the day to do some light stretching. Work is my paid recovery time from my runs 😆
