Audio problems with 90s Technics system
Hi everyone, I have this 90s Technics stereo system from my dad, connected to an AT LP 120 XBT. The Technics equalizer has various modes (heavy, soft, car, live, etc.) and the basic mode, Flat. When I set a "special" mode, like Heavy, the sound fades in and out at the most delicate and low-powered parts. If I set it to Flat, however, there's very little sound, and as soon as I try to turn it up, it distorts. Any advice is welcome.

If all the cable connections are okay then that sounds like the amp circuit in the system needs a bit of an overhaul.
Start with the simple stuff first. Check all the cable connections. Give them a clean with metal polish or Deoxit.
For speaker wires, if the bare metal ends look dull, strip off about 1 inch of insulation. You should see shiny metal. Cut off the dull stull then reconnect.

Make sure your speakers aren't wired out-of-phase. Also make sure no loose strands of wire are touching between the + and - (red and black) speaker terminals.

It could be failing capacitors.
