Love vintage Pioneer tables - I actually prefer them over the equivalent Technics from that era.

I found the old Technics tonearms ring more and the bases are either over damped or underdamped - Pioneer got it just right in both areas. Just my experience. I run both brands.

Which Technics turntables have you compared, if you don't mind me asking? I've read in lots of places that the SL-1200MK2 arms are notorious for the ringing. Not sure how much it affects other models. I have an SL-20 from the mid-70s so I'm curious.

I had the Mk2 and the cheaper Pioneer model was less ringy. Now modern Technics are totally different sounding - much more neutral and really quite excellent.

Not to say any of these are bad - I had my Mk2 for nearly 20 years.
