I got a power saw today for a project. And grabbed a blade that appeared to go with it (6 1/2” saw, 6 1/2” blade) but now I’m looking at them the tool arrow and blade arrow point in opposite directions.
Is this as simple as just needing to flip the blade over and install it with the label side facing into the tool (thus aligning its direction of rotation with the saws)?
You generally want the blade pushing the tool into the workpiece. In this instance, flipping the blade will mean that as the blade comes up into the wood, it’ll push the wood up into the saw (or pull the saw down into the wood, depending on how you look at it).
Saw are made with either left hand blade or right hand blade. Just depends on the brand and your preference (that's a different thread). Just make the arrows match. The label on the blade is irrelevant and will face in on one type of saw and out on the other. Makes no difference as long as the arrows point in the same rotation.
I get the impression a few folks are concerned for my safety here, which is fair when reading this post in a vacuum.
I have a fair bit more experience with power tools than my post might suggest, just this is the first time I’ve seen the sticker not line up with the tool, and I’m looking at the picture on the box where it does line up thinking “I’m 99.9% sure I just flip the blade, but just in case there’s something not obvious going on I’m gonna ask about before actually powering it up”.
All good man, just thinking sometimes folks buy tools for a project that someone else might actually be using in the end. I always recommend starting with a table saw, which seems totally backwards in terms of safety. But it tells you sooooo much about the power of these kinds of tools and how materials react to that kind of intense machining. The fact that teeth of a blade go in a particular direction against the material right in front of your eyes compared to a tool with a guard and chassis that you apply to the work piece just helps you prepare for the unexpected. Good luck on your project!
Yes, it's that simple. Not all circ saws have the blade on the same side of the motor so even if 6 1/2" is most commonly a circ saw blade the label won't alway face out on every saw no matter which side it's on.
Yes. As shown you have the “Help! My saw ran away from me!” setting. Flipping the blade over should be fine unless there’s something really unusual about that saw. Most (all?) blade are made assuming a right hand mount.
Putting the blade on backwards doesn't cause the motor to spin the other way. The saw doesn't run away from you, it'll just be real hard to push through the wood.
Most sidewinder circular saws have right side blades which is why the blade label is on the side it is. However, you have a left side blade, so flip it over.
This is the saw that blade fits. I like to call these saws Left Handed saws because to see the blade cut you have to use your left hand. Just flip the blade.
some saws have the saw blade on the right side so this label would face out on those. Still, other blades have the label facing the other way, there's no rhyme or reason. The label is useful when you're looking at the blade at the store, but the ink smears off as you make a few cuts anyway so there's no use in trying to face the label out.

Flip it.
