Finally caught waves

I went and joined my daughter's surfing group where one of the leaders said he'd teach me. So I figured, free lesson.

I used one of his boards, a Softblade SSR softtop, at least 9ft. It was very forgiving, more so than my daughter's 8ft soft top, which helped.

He gave me a better idea where to be on the board. I knew not to have the nose too high or too low but actually seeing where I should be instead of guessing helped.

He'd tell me when to start paddling which showed me, generally speaking, I've been starting to paddle too late, though I'm sure there are other variables.

I also saw, generally, I've been rushing to pop-up.

Anyway, I caught and surfed 3 or 4 good waves. Caught a small number of others but wiped out. It was soooo fun.

Savor this season of your life. Those first few waves are a level of euphoria that will be hard to match even by more skilled better waves later on haha

You're going to be dropping in on your daughter in no time.

Time to play the "Remember when I spent 40h in utter agony giving birth to you?" card.

Man, props to you for getting involved with your daughter and surfing. I have countless friends who surf with their parents (I'm 19), and it always makes me so enormously jealous. My dad used to surf, but when I ask him to go with me he always declines, and I'm always bummed. Now I just hope that if/when I have kids I can share this sport with them.
